I mean at the moment I use aperture 3 and have the library all set up nicely naming each events etc all on one side of the application it nice.

I am finding it hard how to make it work in Lightroom to arrange all my photos any of you show your screen shoots?

I am trailing Lightroom at the moment and love the Noise Reduction on it and I have found the images that are imported seem more true to life colour than they are when imported into aperture which I find strange

Any advise and help please

I import everything into one folder called LIBRARY by DATE so folders for each year then inside that a folder for each day that I take a picture. Inside LIBRARY I also have a directory called FILM and inside that the same date directories.

THEN

As I import each group of photos I add tags such as WEDDING, STUDIO, FILM and a tag for the location.

THEN

I have smart folders for each type and location so that I can see all images from say Worden Park with a single key press.

PLUS

I also tag certain people, animals, pets etc etc and have smart folders for each lens and body

When I import, I import as DNG copying the image TO the library.

Think I am with you on this but could you send me a screen shoot with light room open to show me what your folders are like on the left pane

Cheers

Thanks, so really it not far off on how we do it in aperture....

I have found that when I import to light room the images are more true to colour without being touch compare to aperture is this a known thing?

Now i need to find it at a best price as possible as know no students to get it...

This might be down to the default RAW conversion rather than anything else!

Just to test how can I alter raw coverter in aperture to be like light room. But I think I like change over to light room at some point :)

I haven't used aperture since version 1

Aperture 3 is really good. No experience of older versions but from what I've read it's a lot better.

The problem for me has been working out how to organise them. Typically it's iphoto events and aperture events, each import with a different title. Typcally then a couple of smart albums in each with better than 1 star. Also have a few top level smart albums for syncing with my iphone:

Places smart album: has location
Faces smart album; has named face

The screen grabs above are really useful, think it's time to start cataloging properly...

Aperture by default (unless this has changed) imported all the images into a giant Aperture folder which just got bigger and bigger! I prefer the normal folder with all the pictures in it THEN a separate folder with the LR3 data files etc in that. That is the main reason I switched but now I am using CS5 too so it is much better keeping both of them.
