Being someone who is somewhat conversant with long exposure and more over night time photography I have to say I was shocked a little over an hour ago when I saw this drivel doing the rounds...

http://petapixel.com/2014/01/03/ghost-reportedly-crashes-nighttime-shot-londons-parliament-building/

It honestly does my head in when I know the amount of work some photographers put into getting there work recognised for the quality and creative work they have produced that stuff like this still gets traction...more over it was telling how defensive this photographer appears when you see some of his responses in the comments of the petapixel article...this is really doing the rounds of the mainstream press :(

All due respect...it's the mirror. *Yawn* I'll stick to Cushelle....

Seriously though....I feel very cynical about the whole story and that it's a publicity shot. Ooooh...maybe that's how I'll get my 15 minutes of fame as a tog? LOL

I could have posted the DM link but then there is no newspaper published that everyone agrees is accurate, unbiased etc...but as this is a story/non political it matters not really the source IMO it more that it's even got news that annoys/shocks me the most

All newspapers have poor reputations, don't they? That was just me being a mouthy moo, sorry.
Must have been a slow down on the news desk...

This all have to be taken with a large dose of salt that's for sure...slow news day for sure ;)

What a waste, a D800 and f22 hand held...

To the lay person this would appear to be a ghostly apparition....but we ain't lay people.

Read a few comments, then thought,"that's a lot of comments", only to see at the bottom, 'load more comments'!

Cheers.

Very true Andy...though of course the photographer has himself as a professional photographer...it does seem more like a thus far successful way of getting some viral marketing

I liked the calculations... especially the car passing with 8100 kph!

Maybe we all need to replicate it in locations all over the place . Each of us get our 5 minutes of fame " Parliament Ghost now seen in .... "

Sounds like a good idea John :D

I spotted a ghost taking a photo in York Minster a fair few years ago

He also forgot to lock the clamp on his tripod leg!?

Any publicity is good publicity :D

There is certainly an argument for that although personally I'd be worried about someone that doesn't know there difference between a 1/25th exposure and a 25 second exposure  well when they're a professional photographer

Quite bizarre that this was picked up, when there are millions of photos taken everyday just like it. And when it's so obvious that nothing even slightly unusual is going on. Anything for click-bait; they may as well have just written the headline and linked to a blank page.

The thing is to a non photographer it probably at first look seems at least intriguing hell I shot three ghost of nurses on an intensive care ward in the very hospital whos grounds this photo was shot from  and I was one of the patients, admittedly I was ready to be discharged and had asked my mum to bring my camera down when she came down the day before so I could stand outside the ward and shoot a couple of photos :D and all three nurses were amazed I could make them a ghost in camera

1/25? more like 25 seconds. Its pretty obviously a long exposure.
