Salright! JimmyLemon caME to my resuce - the Muse :woot:

just 'muse'
they have a habit of covering brilliant songs without messing them up.
but just to be pedantic, the animals version is also a cover of sorts. Its an old traditional song from 'down south' i believe

Muse's cover is fantastic, and it's a version that's been covered again by my band

You could well be thinking of a local band to my area called "Sundowners", a 1960's middle-of-the-road type three-people band where my uncle Martin (who sadly passed away six years ago) used to be a member of.
"Legend" has it that it was The Sundowners who wrote "House Of The Rising Sun" and as they was about to play it in pubs and nightclubs around Folkestone, The Animals released an exact copy of it at the same time and that got into the charts.

Incidentally, even Tangerine Dream did a cover version of it, and here's the spooky thing; I'm a huge Tangerine Dream fan, and so was Uncle Martin. But after a month since he died, Tangerine Dream released a new studio album and House Of The Rising Sun was one of the tracks in that album!

I cant work out if you are serious or pulling my chain.

From what i remember, its origins are 1930's Southern States rather than Southern Counties
