Afternoon all,

Not sure where to post this, so this will have to do

We're off to the States in Sept 2018 to get married. 10 days Vegas, 10 days driving and 10 days NYC.

We know roughly where we will be staying in Vegas and NYC and a couple of locations on our drive.

The drive sees us going from Vegas to Dallas (although down to Laughlin first). The major stops are:

Laughlin (she wants to stay at the Aquarius)
Albuquerque
Amarillo (possibly staying at The Big Texan Steak Ranch)
Oklahoma City
Dallas

So of the 5 stops, we only have 2 places in mind.

Ideally we want to try and avoid places like Best Western, and go for more "mom & pop" type of hotels/motels/B&Bs.

Open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Mat

Of your list there, I can only suggest one, in Albuquerque, though it's been a few years, and that would be a place called Casas de Suenos. Only had about 20 rooms and was rather nice.
Dallas, I stayed in a Hilton. Cheap enough but the usual "cookie cutter" stuff.

One thing I would say is that 10 days seems a lot for Vegas. Are you planning things such as Hoover, GC and DV, Red Rock etc whilst you're there? LV itself is a soulless cesspit IMO.

I got married in US too, many moons ago. Tahoe. :)

Regardless, hope you have a fabulous trip.
September's a good time of year for a trip to the West.

If Route 66 are part of your plans - stretch out the segment between Albuquerque and Amarillo, and go via Santa Fe.

Lots on interweb resources will give recommendations for accommodation, published material goes out of date quickly.

Great guide - the EZ guide to Route 66 is very useful.

If you are thinking of stopping at Holbrook, good for Painted Desert and Petrified forest - stay at Globetrotter - lovely Austrian couple.

As for LV - keep an open mind - we stayed at Aria (unless Jason Bourne completely destroyed it), some of the restaurants were brilliant. Neon Museum is a must. Hotels are moving over to shopping as income streams, good for OH. It is sprawling, but I wouldn't call it a cesspit (there are many many worse places)

Good luck

Oh, and if you plan to "walk the strip" in LV...put your walking shoes in. Its over 4 miles long. :D

We went to Vegas back i 2014 as part of our 30th Birthday trip (got engaged in NYC at TOTR before hitting Vegas). So this will be my second time to Vegas and her fourth! (also done NYC a fair few times between us too)

Wouldn't mind staying at the Aria. Been looking at Bellagio, one of my favourite casinos (she likes Ceasars). Last time we stayed at Flamingo.

Oh I know ;) I intended running it last time, but had done enough running in NYC before we went to Vegas.

By coincidence, we had taken a weekend out of Vegas to see people in Gilbert, AZ that we know. When we got back to the strip, the half marathon was just finishing - absolutely rammed!

Yup, Cadillac Ranch is already on the list....

Also hope to have a DJI Mavic before we go, so hoping for some epic footage.

There's the Bug Ranch at Conway as well...other side of Amarillo..

As for Cadillac Ranch I so wanted to write GM KILLED SAAB on the bodies...

We won't be staying there, just making a pit-stop for an hour or two for food and fuel. I did actually look at the Petrified Forest.
