The fiance and I are thinking about going to Aviemore one day in our week off in September, stay over somewhere so we can go out with the camera that afternnon/evening and then the following day go to the wildlife park at Kincraig before heading home again.

Anyone got any recommendations for a good Hotel/B&B?

Had a look at a few but we can't make our mind up and also don't want to spend a fortune.

Not stayed in Aviemore for a long while, but it is quite a commercialised place now and prices will reflect that.
I'd be tempted to look at B&B's in neighbouring villages - Boat of Garten, Kingussie & Kincraig.

I imagine you'll be every bit as expensive in the surrounding area, as the entire spey valley is a tourist trap.

The Hilton out at colymnbridge(sp) is decent, although a not comment on the rooms as i've never stayed there just eaten and used the facilities, it might be pricey, but hilton sometimes do good deals on their website.

As for b&b's there is one in Grantown I'd recommened but I can't think of the name just now, we stayed at it when I was bestman at my mates wedding, about 10 yrs ago.

What you may not be aware is that your only an hour from Inverness or Elgin so that could give you more options.

Or Dalwhinnie - it should be cheap. It's a tip.

Dalwhinnie is only good for driving past. But not fast, you often see unmarked cars hiding among the hillclimbers cars.

How much do you want to spend, do you want to actually be in the town, dates?

I'm staying at "Burnbanklodges" in Spean Bridge in October, very nice sc lodges I've stayed there last year and family were up there just last month. Its usually only weekly lets but will do odd nights if they can accomodate, would need to try them to see.

In aviemore the "Cairngorm hotel" is apparently very nice, my parents stayed there last year, not sure of price but often have deals in the sunday post newspaper. Their Cairngorm breakfast is legendary!!! Not exclusive to guests, certainly sets you up for the day :)

The Bridge Inn, just onto the ski road from aviemore, does basic accomodation depending upon what you want, they also do a fantastic pint of guinness :D

Just a few suggestions. Also making me want October to come around very quickly :)

We are planning on going in September - for either 1 night or 2. Its not that far from where we stay really (Aberdeen) but just fancy a night away.

We have the RAF Leuchars Airshow on the 12th September and have that week off so anytime within that week really.

We have stayed at 'The Cross' in Kingussie for dinner, B+B. Its not marketed as a hotel, rather more a restaurant with rooms. The food was cetrainly good, with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast was superb, with local venison sausages and everything else to set you off again.

Pricey, yes, so maybe not ideal if you don't want to spend a fortune. But we will probably visit again for a night .
