Hot weather

I absolutely love it warm ... :D ... even with the slightly worse humidity in this country than other warmer climes ... it is still not so hot ... :p

Can't go on long enough for me I'm afraid ... ... can't stand cold stuff ... :shake:

That said I do feel for anyone who has to work in even more uncomfortable conditions ... especially when made worse because of the high outside temperatures ... toughie that ...

But this country's management have really got to learn to listen to their people ... this means allowing sensible clothing in this weather and finding a reasonable working environment for their staff ... trouble is they do not take their responsibilities seriously half the time ... and the powers that be fail miserably to take them to task ...

Working in hot-houses is supposed to be a thing of the past ... we do have H&S regs to control these rogue employers ... don't we ...

Do what they do in Spain - go to work earlier and go home at lunchtime...
My mum lives in Andalucia and no-one there works past midday in the summer...

Do you think that will work in the maternity unit then? Sorry, you can only give birth if it's between 6am and midday...

lol, i'd like to see that :D

i'm loving the weather, brought up in the tropics so i guess i must be used to it, but it's pretty hot in our hospital too. some of the clinics have no windows and they're not pleasant at all. some of th radiators are still on through the day too!! the other thing is the car, the damn steering wheel's always too hot, the amount of times i've nearly crashed in the last few days not holding on to it properly, oops!

worst heat i've had was a couple of years ago when i was diving in thailand. i was working out there for a few months and you'd still get cold in the pool when teaching people as you'd not really move for 30 mins even tho the water was 30 deg. but in a wetsuit waiting to get in the pool for 10 mins before once with it at 45 degrees outside and me in the sun was horrible, nothing like it, just plain nasty. might as well have baked me at gas mark 5.

Not my fault you chose a profession that's on-call 24-7...
Girls - always moaning about something eh?:D

Personally I want it to be cold and snowing! I just don't ever feel cold but anything above 25 degrees and I melt!

Either would I, not on the hottest day of the year. No, definitely not. ;)

I love it, I labour outside all day, pour with sweat continuously, and I managed to drink a record 12 litres of water yesterday...forget the congestion charge I spend more than that on drinks alone...

The only problem I have is running out of clean tea shirts.

Arkady, my commiserations fella, 55 degrees...ouch.

Awwww

sounds like you might need to see the doctor Joe, are you taking any antihistamine tabs or rubbing antihistamine cream on the bite?

I went ot the chemist yesterday, and he gave me Eurax HC cream which I put on twice a day. This morning I have also got some some Pirton which I have just started taking.

I also had an ice pack on it for a short while this morning. Seemed to help the swelling a bit.

if it doesnt get better by tonight, I'm going to the doctors tomorrow.

Thank you for your concern. :)

I wonder if I can get a picture up here :p

Ugh :p

eugh....you poor thing! I should have put a picture of my boil I had on my shoulder last week lol

that's what my hand looked like on Sunday/Monday, the swellings more or less gone now but it's still itchy as anything. I found the cream to be a waste of time but the tablets I got from the chemist made a big difference. Hang on and I'll see if I can get the name of them.

Awww! Joe, thats not looking very nice mate!
I got attacked in a Poppy field last month, all 4 bites seemed to be around my joints. My finger & wrist swelled up so badly I couldnt work either.
Mine got progressively worse before they got better and the Pharmacist seemed to think I was stretching the truth a bit when he saw the bites & I told him Id been bitten 3 weeks previous.
I think youre doing the right thing, the ice packs, anti-histermines & steroid cream worked on me within 3 days.
Hope it goes down soon.

Cetirizine DiHydrochloride?

(Basically the drug behind Piriton / Piriteze etc).

Much cheaper than the branded ones too ;)

Still haven't totally worked out why they do this ... but they start early and all sorts of avians do it ...

Some say it is to de-bug ... enuff of that already ... :D

Others say they use sunlight to help synthesise their own vitamin D which helps in the uptake of calcium into their bodies ... :geek:

Still others find birds anting to rid themselves of bugs ... fave trick of the Jay (Garrulus glandarius) ... :p
