Hey guys,
I was wondering if you'd be able to help me. I very rarely use any flash but my Uni Photography Society has a studio set up with stand alone flashes which i'd love to use. Unfortunately the flashes do not detect the on-camera flash of my Nikon and i don't own a flash gun.
I was hoping someone could advise me about a Hama Hot Shoe adaptor (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Hot-Shoe-Adapter-Centre/dp/B00005LEP9)? That appears to be the cheapest way i'd be able to make them work but i'd like to know

a) is it a universal fit because no brand is specified
b) anyone used one/got reviews
c) is the cable which connects into it likely to have come with the external flashes or will i have to buy that too? Apparantly i'd need an extension cable on top of that as well..

Failing anyone having used one, anyone got any other suggestions how i can make the flashes work?

Any help asap would be very much appreciated as there's a shoot next Thursday so i'd need to order one as soon as ;)

Thanks in advance, Viki =)

On it's own that is not going to be of much use

You'll need a cable or wireless triggers

How many flashes will you be using?

It may simply be a case of borrowing the appropriate trigger if it is being shared around the group as generally no more than 1 person shoots at a time

You may wish to check if the lights already have receivers attached

The adaptor should take a flash lead that connects it to the flashes. One point to keep in mind some studio flashes have a high trigger voltage (mostly older ones) and could fry a digital camera.

Ooh ok  They're not ancient but they're not brand new either.

There's two flashes and I have enquired and apparantly the can just be permanently on, so that could work instead.

What do you mean by a wireless trigger? (As i said flashes are new territory for me!) Do you mean a remote? If so i doubt it'd work with my camera since i'm in a minority with my Nikon and the group mostly have Canons.

Hi Vicki,

Just a thought, the Uni Photographic society should have someone who can show you what is needed and may possibly have triggers for the flash units they have ?
