Loads of people on here have their own websites so I was wondering what hosts they use and the packages. There are sooooo many out there so it'll be good to use one that people say is worth it.

Thanks guys

I use dataflame. Since i've been with them they've changed the packages around and i've forgotten which one I was with. I would recommend them. There not the cheapest around but my sites hardly ever down and customer support is ace!

I use Freeola it free without any advertising or bandwidth restriction if they are your broadband provider , but i pay £3.00 month as I'm not a customer.

Ditto!! Been using them for 4 years now and whilst not the cheapest, by no means the most expensive, full control panel access, scripts, everything and support is top notch [ie, quick and effective]

I had a look at some of the reviews on dataflame and some are very bad :(

Here

Anyone say this is untrue?

 its like they are talking about a different company - certainly not the experience I have had with them over several years. I am currently hosting 5 different websites with them for the very reason that they have always been reliable with little downtime and good CS....they have even resolved script issues for me in forum software when really they were not obliged to as I didnt install from the CP.

as for emails - unlimited on most linux packages.EDIT: although that might have changed with the new packages, not sure.

I'm with vidahost and have no issues with them. You might want to google for promotion codes for your chosen provider. I got 10% off Vidahost for doing just that.

I have a FM server with easynet which is around £6k a year IIRC, three or four of their hosted packages which are around £600 a year and I use www.smugmug.com [PM me for a 10% off code] for my photo sales side of things which was £90 [IIRC] last renewal. None have any data / bandwidth restrictions or advertising.

Yeah I'm using Vidahost too, I've been with them for about 2 and a half years now, they are spot on. I've found the starter package is more than enough for me, and they are pretty fast to respond when I've had questions for them.

might help decide, I think i'm with vidahost but i can't quite remember! yup Vidahost it is.

I'm with them too, fantastic service, i think they'll also happily customise a package for you, if say you feel you could use more space but less bandwidth per month, than is offered by a certain package.

The support is excellent, the controls are awesome (cPanel 11 and Fantistico etc. so it can install galleries and CMS for you)

Highly recommended.

That reminds me, I need to pay for mine in a minute! :p

I've been using Supanames for a year now, works out at just over £1 a month. Was very happy until today when I went to check my webmail and found all the mailboxes empty.

Turns out that there was a major server collapse last night and it had to be replaced. Unfortunately they don't back up emails. The site was restored but didn't include all the updates I made yesterday and I am unable to reupload them yet as the engineers are apparently restricting access to the server for the next few hours at least. :(

Does anyone know if it is standard practice for hosts not to back up emails? If not I may be looking at new hosts when the current deal ends next year.

Unfortunately it comes down to the old "you get what you pay for" again. Most hosts will only backup & restore the site content and not other data.

I use heart internet, been great for me - reply to any questions lighting fast.

£30 a year for the basic package.

well worth a look!

Another vote for dataflame here, I've been with them for 5+ years and any problems have been resleved straight away.

Catalyst2 - Cant recommend their starter packages (or them) highly enough.
Fast servers, great service and support, UK hosts.

TP was hosted with them at one time, until we grew too big :)
