Horsemeat found in IKEA meatballs

I read the bute 600 pound thing myself i'm not on about this specially.

I'd imagine direct contact (absorption through skin) would have more of an impact than consuming meat that was once an animal treated with it?

For example if you ate me you wouldn't get the full dose of ibuprofen I took this morning.

Not sure about that. Consuming a small amount of radiation would do more damage than the same amount on the skin i think?

For example if you ate part of me you wouldn't get the full dose of ibuprofen I took this morning.

Nor would I if I licked your skin. (If you had applied said drug through your skin).

Please understand, I am not really arguing a point here, just mentioning something from personal experience.
I can't understand why we would have been warned about a substance, so long ago, if it were not already recognised as something to be avoided at all costs :)

No, I'm not missing the point, I have eaten them for several years, I'm here, not dead not had any issues, the bute issue was raised last week or the week before, to get a human dose you would have to had eaten 5- 600 quarter pounders in one day.

Just because you have been fine doesn't mean the dangers are not there? Don't you want to be able to trace the food you consume?

There's danger in living! In fact, life is itself a terminal condition - and a sexually transmitted condition at that.

Not quite the same thing, most chemicals break down much quicker than nuclears (:D)

No I know, I'm just interested.

Never mind, that didn't pan out!

I'm not, it's just if we didn't eat drink or do anything that could be bad for us, you would never get it if bed and you certainly wouldn't eat or drink anything. Tbf we make an awful lot of what we eat and don't buy instant meals very often, but i do have ikea meatballs in the freezer most of the time for quick meals, will I be throwing out the bag in the freezer, nope, will still use them.

Out of curiosity, to the people that are not bothered by the lack of traceability. If they discovered BSE infected beef that should have been destroyed in all the processes products how would you feel then?

I missed your post Nod, so very true.

Don't really want to start an argument on this, I only asked as a genuine curiosity..

But again its not really the same thing, the chemical involved here in the amounts that have been detected are (from what I've read) trace amounts that aren't harmful.

I don't recall there being loads of health issues with the same symptoms as the bute side effects that's all. I just think it may be being blown out of proportion as normal.

I didnt think we were talking about bute specifically? Just horse finding its way into the food chain.

Joking aside, i'm not to worried about cumulative drug build up - having worked for a water company i'd be more concerned about the various drugs to be found building up in tap water (for example it is possible that the drop in male fertility in some areas may be linked to the build up of female hormones in water, as a result of contraceptive pills)

but that said I do agree with robert re traceablity - you should know what you are eating and where it came from. I have no issue with eating horse, even the occasional one with bute in its system, but I want to make that informed decision myself, not believe I am eating one thing and actually be eating something else.

This. In fact I've not actually heard anyone say they flat out object to eating horse. The issue I have with it is knowing what I'm eating so I can make an informed choice in accordance with my beliefs. If I buy beef - at the price of beef - then I expect to be eating beef. If I wanted a cheaper alternative then horse is fine as far as I'm concerned. It's the deception in pursuit of profits I object to. No doubt companies will justify the price of real beef products going through the roof now they have to use the genuine product and not some cheap substitute to pad their products out with.

honestly you can't take ruth anywhere without her leading young men astray  :naughty:

What I wish to tell you to do, I cannot tell you to do on the open forum, because I'd be awarded with time off. However, it ends with "off". :D

And you yourself are FAR from being young. :p

I'd eat horse if it was for sale in the butchers, mind you in a crashed in the Andes scenario I'd eat a fellow passenger :D

I'm in my prime, and you are in denial of your true feelings

More likely to keep him awake at night!

Heather

Pete lives in a little world of his own.
The only real thing that keeps him sleeping a night is top notch narcotics :D

So let me get this right, ikea sell meatballs with meat in and there's a problem ??

When was horse meat, not meat.

the problem is they are described as beef meat balls - if they were described as horse meat balls there'd be no problem

I understand, I actually heard it on the radio with a government official staying the facts.

"A government official stating the facts"?

THAT'll be a first!

Don't know about in store but on the website* it just says Swedish Meatballs, so as long as the horses come from Sweden I see no problem.

* as far as I can see anyway, there could be pages I have missed
