Horrible Question

I suppose if Capt Mainwaring hadn't belittled him so much, he wouldn't have turned into such a monster?

Unfortunately, many people from 'other ethnic groups' will have different food tastes to what we consider acceptable - no-one accuses the French of being barbarians (well, not much...) but look at some of the more esoteric dishes they can no longer serve due to EU regs...and as for 'real' Chinese cooking...well...

Swan was a common sight on well-to-do English tables until quite recently and swans were routinely poched for food during WW2 and in the post-war years while rationing was still in place.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that swans are still being poached for food and the whole urban myth about killing swans being treason was because previous monarchs like Henry VIII had them reserved for his table...go to the kitchens in Hampton Court Palace and you can view a banquet menu from the period...

It was true, but I believe that they have been "de-regulated" quite recently due to the supposed increased numbers

...in actual (boring!) fact, the Queen's 'ownership' of said swans is true - but it is restricted to the Mute Swan on certain parts of the Thames only!

If there are feathers lying around I'd say that points to an animal attack rather than someone stealing them... Stake the palce out at night, thats what I'd do!!

thats the stupidist article i've ever seen
why would eastern europeans be seeking asylum???

Swans back home have been persecuting them, perhaps:D

Thats interesting
( if true) there used to be ( quite recently) 2 pair on a large local lake
that I take the dogs for their daily run around.

Not seen then for a couple or so weeks ( the swans not the dogs)
it must be the monster pike that are in there taking them.

I doubt that it would be the camping east Europeans that seem to spend the
week-ends there fishing and Bar-B-que-ing

Chris

Which lake has this giant pike in it?

No but there are often a lot of comments like "erk - you're disgusting, you eat raw beef, snails and frogs legs".....;)

Nothing like a nice "Bleu" steak
or escargots in garlic butter

Never eaten frogs legs or cheval though

Thanks for clearing that up

I would imagine if you hit someone hard enough with a concrete or steel pole
it would certainly do a bit of damage :D

Eat a burger from any street stall in Holland, Belgium, France or Spain and you'll be eating horse...in fact unless it specifically states 'beef', chances are that any meat you buy across the channel is horse...and it tastes fine...
Snails are good, though due to EU-ness they have to be served in dishes not in the shells (though if you know the chef...lol).
Frogs-Legs are tasty but brief...I mean you have to eat a fair few to get the benefit...

'bleu' beef tastes horrible to me though...I like it well-done, though I find that it has a lot to do with the quality of the meat...the better the beef, the rarer I can take it...

I've tasted swan a few years ago. It decapitated itself on power lines coming in to land on water. Tasted awful, although the geezer who cooked it was no Gordon Ramsey. :gag:

Thats my theory too, although I like a "well done" steak
they can serve any old crap and you wouldn't know it
ask for a very rare or bleu and you can soon tell if its crap.

I tried eating fox once, with all the rabbits, pheasants and ducks they eat,you would expect it be ok.

It wasn`t ,it was revolting..........

My parents live in Lincolnshire, the same stories and rumours are very common up there, and a number of people have been arrested for taking fish, ducks, swans, grebes etc etc most of the seasonal workers earn very small wages, so taking something to eat that doesnt cost anything but time doesnt sound so unusual, plus as Rob stated, they will have different tastes and standards in food to us.

Doesnt make it any more right, just stating it isnt an isolated thing to happen !

err and snails, slugs and other small rodents...lol

Look at the carp domestic dogs eat - you expect wild dog to be any better?

You have to drain it of all blood and hang it for a bit, then rub wild onion into the meat, chop it up and stew it for it to be anywhere near palatable...

Grey Squirrels are ok........

We have had swans taken in this area also by immigrants. I seem to remember an article in the local paper about it. I think they were even prosecuted. Jeez 48 and my memory is going....

kev.

Here you go !!!

Like me,we decided to go for a walk to the lake ...what did I decide to do ,leave camera bag at home and my camera decided to die on me when I was out there trying to shoot swans

^^^^^^^^^^
Evidence....... babytiger is the culprit

Dog is fine..we ate dog in Africa a few times...

Is there much meat on a dog?

My favourite African meat so far is Warthog. They should start breeding them here, so much better than wild boar.
