Horizontal lines on a photo

went out to take few shots this afternoon and after upload to my PC, I've noticed horizontal lines over the picture. I've checked the rest and there's nothing. any ideas what could it be? many thanks in advance.

I was using canon 1d mark IV with canon 300mm f/2.8L non IS

 
Is there anything in the BG Piotr, doesnt look like there is but worth asking, how old is the card you are using, you could try a format of it
 
Those aren't horizontal lines, they're squares. It's the pattern of the sensor haunting the picture. Can't remember what causes it though and I can't read the Exif on the iPad.

Over sharpening? Pushed ISO? Sommat along those lines.
 
OOh, I can see them now (not squares though)
No idea of the cause though.
 
I can see them - same texture as the BG just banding.

Shooting JPEG or RAW?

Can you replicate it?
 
If it's on the RAW then it's almost certainly a camera problem. This is definitely not optical.
 
I'm afraid it looks like a sensor problem to me. Something to keep an eye on.
If it's still under warranty i'd be tempted to send it off with the original of that photo as evidence included.

Tempted? If it's under warranty you SHOULD send it back, never mind be tempted to. Temped implies that you may not. It's clearly not right... send it back if under warranty.
 
Shoot same shots with jpg and raw at same time to exclude a software error. I'm sure this issue has appeared before with canon.

Also try different raw processing software.

If always visible then insist on replacement. It's an expensive camera and should be perfect. I wouldn't tolerate image problems like that on a cheap compact never mind a top of the range product.
 
Lying awake earlier, I wondered if the lines could be smeared oil spots after a wet clean attempt (I managed to get similar after a botched clean of my D200) but after another look at the picture, the lines are far too straight for that. Might be worth having a look with a lit magnifier to see if it IS streaks left after manufacture?
 
Took me ages to see the lines, there is one at an angle (more verticle) in the bottom left as well.
 
My suggestion is to write a letter to Canon and take your camera to your local distributor. Also document yourself so that they realize this is not an isolated problem but that it's happening to a lot of cameras all over the world, good luck:)

...and that's not exactly surprising. Most cameras will produce the effect that you've seen, given the right circumstances. It's a mixture of highish ISO, OOF background and strong foreground sharpening.

Tbh, I wouldn't overly worry about it.
