Hi
I'm considering getting a battery grip for my Canon 450D off ebay from Hong Kong. I'm looking at £35 as opposed to £130 for the Canon.
I was just interested to hear any good stories/horror stories of these 3rd party BG's and looking for conformation that these cheaper models are ok.
Many thanks
Mike

I was thinking the same as you, But today i got the canon one. The reason being i intend to keep the camera for a while and after looking at a freinds 400D ebay grip, it didn't feel that well made. He said he has had it for about 2 years with no problems mind you.

You get what you pay for. A lot of the cheap grips dont have the screw fitting that makes the originals feel so "secure" once mounted! Oh, and they sometimes have some buttons missing.

I thought it was actually £50 after adding £15 shipping? Is there one for £35 WITH shipping?

I bought one a while ago for the 70s and it works fine, the only thing is doesn't do is allow firing from the vertical button, unless you attach a lead. It's never caused me any greif and secures to camera via screw mount.

Rob.

I bought one but it i search uk only on ebay and found the same one and its a cracker in my book fit the same as the Canon and has the vertical button paid £32 inc postage.

Damn, that's good. I'll have to find that. I could find ones that were around £50.

Oh wait, was that for the XXX series? If so, that makes since. I was looking for the 40D and couldn't find less than £50.

I got given one for xmas for my 400d, i have had no problems whatsoever with it. It works flawlessly, and i got two third party batteries with it aswell, and both of these are great. They seem to hold their charge longer than the official Canon version.:)

Sounds okay, but it's not for my 40D. :(

I have a Hong Kong etc battery grip for my 40d. Got it off ebay about 6 months ago and it's not been off the camera since, feels very solid and does everything I need, I simply couldn't justify paying 4 times more for the canon item. It also came with a couple of batteries.

I'll have a look to see if I cn find the same or similar,

I have one for my 350D and 40D. Both work as the Canon would, at 1/3 of the price. Never had a problem. Get one:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

It was too long ago to dig out but it's one of the basic ones, no lcd. Seems they have gone up a bit since I got mine.

I just ordered an Opteka BG from Amazon for £70. Supposedly, they're very similar to Canon's, have all the buttons and a rubberised grip. There are 2 batteries bundled in with it as well (although I will use these as backups). I read various comments around the net and the feedback was positive. It should arrive sometime this week. I'll post back with some opinions of it at the weekend.

I have bought two off Ebay from Hong Kong (HK Supplies - seller: etefore). The were both delivered within a few days of ordering, and have worked without any problems. I also got batteries from the same company, and they last longer than the Canon ones.

Got a Phottix one for my 40D from Etefore in Hong Kong via ebay. Works well, no problems.

5 days from order to delivery.

I got the 350D version with 2 batteries for under £50, no complaints whatsoever

Just an update as mine arrived today for my 450D.
It was made by Nicano and cost £35 delivered. I'm very pleased with it. It feels tight and solid and works flawlessly.
Thanks all for the input

I got an offical canon one of ebay for about £70 new, in Novemeber, i guess i was lucky. I havent seen them around again (although i obviously havent really been looking as i have got it now :lol:)
But it shows you can get a bargain of ebay every now and again, but you may have to wait a while!
