Well, I'm getting married in July and we still haven't decided where we want to go on our honeymoon.
We're not really "sit on a beach all day" type of people and would rather be out and about doing stuff.

We're open to any suggestions, unless there to somewhere ridiculously hot as I don't do very high temperatures.

Obviously we will be taking our cameras so somewhere with lots of dramatic scenery would be good.

So far we've come up with northwest Australia and Canada, but like I said, please give me lots of suggestions because it's probably best that we get it sorted reasonably soon!;):D

Me and husband went to Kefalonia for our honeymoon, we're not ones for beach holidays so this was good, plenty to see round the island. And also we went to Santorini for holiday a couple of years ago, again, lots to see

Malta is stunning, Lovely people and steeped in some beautiful buildings. Alot of Bond movies were filmed there so the scenery as you can imagine is stunning. Not to hot and not crowded. They only have one beach up im Mellieha bay. Worth having a look at :)

Either New Zealand - south island. Or a USA road trip, western side, San Francisco, maybe LA, Pacific coast, Las Vegas, and lots of canyons, national parks and deserts in between. Unbeatable.

I'd say Hong Kong too, but in July the heat and humidity may be too much for you.

Blackpool ....

NZ. Simples.

Went there 2yrs ago and wold go back there if given half the opp.
Just make sure that you don't try and cram too much of the the country into the trip if you have 2 weeks.

My own honeymoon was spent in New England - but it was Oct, so got to see 'Fall in New England', a weekend in Boston, and then driving to the island of Nantucket. That was immense, but think that July may not show it off to its best.

An alternative is South India ....

Hawaii?
Plenty to do, and all the islands can be easily got to via helicopter

My wife and I went to Canada on our honeymoon. We flew into Calgary, picked up our car and then drove through the Rocky mountains, it's amazing that these huge mountains just appear from a back drop of freshly harvested fields around Calgary. We then entered Banff national park where everything starts to become even more impressive. We had a night in Calgary, a night in Banff, 2 nights in Jasper, 1 night in Kamloops and 2 nights in Vancouver before we went on a cruise to Alaska. With this we tried to see too much, I think at least double the time in the places we stayed would only start to do the trip justice. We've said that if we are fortunate to do it again we would spend longer in each place.

If you decide to go to Canada and through the Rocky's let me know and I'll point out some of the great places we went.

Kev

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys.

I agree, Malta is beautiful but it was also my parents holiday of choice so I've been about 10 times whilst growing up and once on my own about 2 years ago!

I know I said I didn't want the heat but the missus doesn't want it to be cold so I fear New Zealand in winter is out, according to my friend who lives out there.

I have thought about the road trip on the US west coast. That way we could also take in Blackpool's little brother, Las Vegas.;)

I must say I'm swaying towards Canada, especially Banff / British Columbia region but please keep all the suggestions coming.

We did a 2 week fly drive along the following route:

LA > Palm Springs > Lake Havasu > Vegas > Yosemite > San Fran

Great Holiday, such a variety of things to see. However, we went in May 2009 and there was a heat wave, temps hit 105'c

If I was you, I'd be looking at a fly drive through canada, spend 2 weeks driving about seeing lots of different scenery. It's the next thing we want to do. :)

EDIT: TBH, I didn't enjoy LA or Lake Havasu. Palm springs is nice if you take the cable car to the top of one of the local mountains :)

Iv'e not been to either but have always fancied either or both Guilin China or Peru with the ancient Inca cities you see on the mountain tops..

Guilin..

Not my pictures as I haven't been there but gives you an idea of the photographic potential.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys.

Hi Stuart - what a lovely problem to have. :)

Las Vegas in July will be very, very hot. We visited once in August and it was baking! If you're thinking about Canada, from Vancouver it's an easy trip to Seattle with more stunning scenery and fabulous coastline. Summer weather is pretty much like ours - unpredictable!

Let us know what you decide on. :)

A few years ago my wife and I went to Brazil and it was amazing! We based ourselves just outside Salvador at a place called Praia De Forte, and toured Rio De Janeiro and the Iguassu Falls as well as seeing Salvador and some of the towns nearby. A fantastic experience and the beaches are simply stunning! A great combination!

Italy: Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. There you'll have a mix of beach life along with the beautiful Italian streets and buildings, Vesuvius, Pompeii, Herculaneum. I spent a week there with my wife in May last year. Its the ideal temperature for walking around. July will be a little warmer though.

How about the Azores ?

I have been (once) and the shades of green are amazing - might be related to the amount of rain they have ! Apparently you can have all four seasons on one island at the same time!

It's a bit off the beaten track and not too hot.

You can go whale watching or swim with the dolphins, etc.

Where ever you go, do your research first so you can get the most out of it, I'm constantly finding great things to see on the day I'm leaving !

How about the Italian Lakes? Stunning scenery and lovely town/villages to visit.

Thanks everyone.

From having not much inspiration, I think we'll have a very large list to narrow down this evening :D

Keep them coming please

The place is stunning. Add in a day on Capri and that should fill your week nicely.
We stayed at Amalfi in August and arrived on one of their big Saints day celebrations. Rolled into the hotel, checked in, retired to the terrace with a nice bottle of red wine and were then treated to one of the best firework displays I've ever seen!

Bear in mind that no matter how "get up and go" you normally are, after the stress of organising a wedding you'll be needing at least a bit of a rest. And it is your honeymoon after all... ;)

Very true, thanks.

We had a honeymoon at the end of Aug last year and again are not sit on the beach people.

We went to Banff and Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Both are stunning places. The mountains and trips you can do out of Banff are wonderful. Sulphur Mountain, Hot Springs, Bear Safair, Canoe down the rive, trail rides etc. All in wonderful clean outside air. I can recommend Brewsters Mountain Lodge and the Rimrock Hotels.

Calgary is an amazing city to visit as well.

Australia would be too far away for me, you'll be knackered after the wedding so somewhere you can reach in 1 flight would be favourite, either in Europe (but not Ryanair/Easyjet, fly proper airline in business class to make it pain-free) or somewhere 10-12-ish hours away so you can sleep on the plane.

How about a baltic beach resort in Latvia or Lithuania for a short week to recover then on to St Petersburg for some culture?

A few places i can think of...

Barcelona - Architecture / Old Olympic village / Gaudi buildings...

Cyprus - Trodos mountains / beautiful coastline / derelict cities from the war...

Rhodes - Rhodes town (walled town of the order of st john)...

Croatia - Plitvic lakes / old towns and cities...

All the above have good weather and beaches if required....

One place i would love to go would be Egypt with the Pyramids/tombs/sphinx etc...

Our honeymoon was at Cuba. Probably a bit too hot (was 40c in September 08) but the photographic side of it is awesome!!!

Closer to home, you have the Lakes in Italy, very nice, or as mark says, Barcelona is a fab city to visit

I had the pleasure of living in Canmore, Alberta for 1 year. It's about 20 minutes from Banff. Calgary is dull and uninteresting as far as cities go but the national parks are superb.

It's such a great place to visit, particularly in July as they have excellent summers there. Having spent a year living there I've pretty much been to all the places of interest:

lake louise, lake morraine, peyto lake, jasper, kamloops, ohara, lake johnson, minnewanka, johnston canyone etc etc

If you go to Canmore make sure you try the salt and pepper chicken wings at the Rose and Crown. If you like your real ale the closest you'll get in Canada is either Kootenay Mountain Ale or McNallys Extra strong ale.

you name it I've had the pleasure of enjoying it. Wasn't hugely into photography at that time so didn't get to take full advantage of it, no dSLR or anything, but these are some "snaps" I got with my point and shoot:

Hong Kong?

It's a photographer's dream and if you're into getting out and about, Hong Kong has endless places to see. I've been for 2 weeks for the last 2 years and still have a massive list of places I want to see!

Could be too hot, depending on when you go and I guess it's not wildly romantic! It's such an amazing place though (and the food is unreal!).

I have a honeymoon to plan for next May so great thread!! There are some places in here I'd have never of thought of, can't wait to plan it!!! Should probably sort the wedding first :bonk:

Road trip in USA is a good idea, I've gone from Vegas across to Denver before and it's amazing, this year we are going from Seattle to LA which from what I've heard here should be great too!!

:plusone: for Canada. All around the Banff area, The Rockies, Lake Louise etc is stunning and you'll probably find it hard to get a bad photo. Head over to Vancouver from there for a really nice city with lots more photo opportunities. And finally, if the budget can stretch, a cruise up to Alaska is well worth the trip both for the scenery and for the wildlife.

The only problem will be whether the new missus will object to you spending the entire honeymoon with your eye stuck to a viewfinder rather then her....

:plusone: for Hong Kong, went their for my honeymoon last year and the scenery is spectacular, loads of other places to see just a short train journey away too.

We then went onto do a tour of Vietnam which was also brilliant for photography. The candid shots you can get of the locals on the street as well as the scenery at places such as Halong Bay and the Hoi Van Pass is unreal.

I didnt even have a DSLR when I went, it was the honeymoon that made me buy one on my return!
