I know Mountain Lion is just around the corner, but I'd like honest opinions on os x lion, more specifically from users of older mac's who updated from snow leopard.

I have a 24" 2.8 core duo with 4gb ram, which I was hoping to upgrade if apple had of updated the imac range earlier this month. But seeing as they decided not to do that, i'm going to keep the cash in the bank and wait for a couple of months and see what pans out.

I use an ipad and an iphone and the lack of icloud integration between the imac and those devices is becoming a bit of a pain, so I'm now looking at updating the machine

Thing is though, I don't want to loose emails and documents etc I have on the machine, and some of the software i use....namely cs4 and Lr2 could be a problem as I can't for the life of me find the boxes :bang:, so the upgrade process is unnerving me

Thoughts on compatibility, data loss and activation woes please

Not an older Mac, but upgrading from Snow Leopard was smooth and painless on my 27" 2010 iMac.

Cant quite remember, as I've done a clean install since, but I think it left all my users and data intact (maybe someone else can confirm this). Even if not, if you make a Time Machine backup before upgrading you can transfer users and apps across

i think mine was a late 2008 machine as I installed snow leopard on it pretty much straight after I got the mac i think.

I can't remember any issues with that upgrade, but I just don't trust IT stuff

its painless as it is intended to be. You wont lose any data - i can't say if cs4 or lr2 are compatible though, check the sites. But everything that worked on snow leopard worked on lion for me

Last week I upgraded my 2006 24 inch from snow leopard.
No problems at all, took about an hour all in, no data loss or anything untowards.
Haven't noticed any change In performance for the better or worse.

That's good to hear, did you have to reactivate photoshop?

This is good :D

Anyone using cs4 /lr2 with lion?

I did the app upgrade on both my macbookpro and imac without any issues. all my siftware including adobe was just fine. Got cs5 on the macbook and cs4 pn the imac.

Been reading conflicting reports of Lightroom two compatibility.

Would it matter that my machine and software is 32bit and not 64?
