But i do photograph cricket and when these two appeared on the pitch at tea break.... I was using a 400m so I couldnt even attract there attention.. had to move in a position where it looked like they where looking at me.. they wernt

We once hired out a 500mm lens for a wedding. Though I have a sneaking suspicion the photographer might not have been "official".

Nah, if you want to be lazy, you need slightly different equipment.

Use an 800mm lens, 2x teleconverter, and a 24mp D7100. If the atmospheric conditions are good, you can take recognisable images of people up to 4km away.

(We once had a customer hire an 800mm and a 2x TC, for "covert surveillance". I thought it must be pretty covert with that setup, but he was a bit of a scary bloke so I didn't press for details.)
