Honda commercial

Excellent.
Honda have done some brilliant ads.
Whatever agency they use are earning their biscuits! !

Love stuff like this.

Anyone in here not seen any Ok Go videos?

If not.. go Google if you like stuff like Honda ads.

Not if it's supposed to transfer into car sales it's not. Only 2.53% of the UK market last year. Only 33596 cars sold in the UK as a manufacturer, outsold by the VW Golf alone and that came in 5th in the top 10 cars sold in the UK. Hopefully they'll have earned their money on motorbikes, mowers, motorbikes etc.

When you look at the figures for all manufacturers that's not tragic.

Very clever :)

It's not brilliant though is it, having your whole range outsold by just one car. The top selling car in the UK sold twice as many cars as Honda managed with their range last year. The UK top selling car manufacturer managed to sell over 155,000 more cars last year than Honda, so it's fairly tragic.

Not when we're not even close to being their largest target market, no.

But the use of the British Touring Car Championship race car over the World Touring Car Championship race car would intimate that the advert is aimed at the UK market. Even on world car sales they only achieve 7th place selling just under half as many as the top selling manufacturer or just over half as many cars as the 2nd place selling manufacturer. Like I said hopefully it's their sales for other products that make up the short fall.

I think the add is creative and works really well.

I don't see much point discussing their sales performance as it is a bit off-topic. Their cars are more US- and Japan centric so no surprises there. Pensioners like the Jazz, townies love (but can't afford!) the Civic, and some people like me wouldn't mind a CR-V if it had a more modern auto box and more diesel engine choice.

Forgive me, I was under the impression the idea of adverts were about improving sales performances and as I pointed out this advert is aimed at the UK market with it's use of a race car used in a British championship as opposed to the race car they use in the World championship.
Incidentally in America they sold just over half as many cars as the leading brand and same goes for Japan, although at least they're in 2nd place in their home market.

they are... but I have the impression we were discussing the creative aspects of add - not the balance sheets as you would on TalkInvestment...

to paraphrase it "The add sucks because in the past they didn't sell as many cars as a competitor". Reasoning at it's best, innit?

I really don't car how many units they shift.
Their adverts are far better than any dross put out by ford / Vauxhall et al.

You obviously know a lot more about car sales stat's that me.
I enjoyed the commercial for what it was.

Wouldn't dissecting it be rather like saying, its wrong to like a given song or album, as it never made the top 10?
Just thinking out load.

Plus....Honda have Asimo.
Enough said. :-)

OK a technically amazing advert, especially getting a fwd car to wheelspin it's rear wheels. Doh! :)
Happy now? ;)

Maybe they would sell a lot less cars without the ad, so they deem it a success.

You've obviously not seen all Ford adverts, ;)
The most comical advert at the moment has got to be for the new Toyota Aygo, obviously a car no-one wants to be seen driving.:D

There are some OK ford ads.

I am not so sure about this Toyota vid - it is neither original idea nor that well executed. And it does't even make me what to try it - even in the costume that is probably on the extras list?

Honda ads are utterly brilliant, and this is another in the series.

If you actually watch it, it's not just about cars is it? It's about boats, planes, compressors, bikes, lawn mowers, generators and a whole load of other products which Honda make. Unlike VW and other car manufacturers who just make cars, Honda make a huge range of products and their ads reflect this diversity. I'm sure they're ok with their car sales figures because they have all this other stuff to sell as well.

My favourite two are "The Cog" & "Grr" , both great for different reasons :D, a quick google will also tell you they made $1.6 billion PROFIT in the last quarter... so I'd not be to worried for them and their sales
Also, I wanted a Honda Element, but the OH says it was "too orthopaedic" :p

Ford now concentrates on it's two main core businesses, Cars and commercial vehicles and it's Ford Credit financial arm. In the past they have built tractors and other agricultural machinery, diggers, lorries, coach chassis, industrial engines, marine engines, in the 60's Ford helped put a man on the moon as their Aerospace engineers helped design, construct and operate Nasa's Mission Control Centre at Houston for the Apollo and Gemini missions. In the 70's Ford won a contract to build 7 satellites which to this day still relay live TV signals and telephone calls. They also built boats for WW1 and planes for WW2 as well as military vehicles. Ford also build engines for specialist car manufacturers as well as some large manufactirers.
Ford also gave the world the moving production line.
I daresay other car manufacturers have done and still do other stuff you may not be aware of.

$1 Billion behind Ford then, $1.8Billion behind VAG, and over $5Billion behind Toyota, imagine what Honda could make if the sold more cars. ;)

I had to Google Honda Element, never heard of it but, oh dear!:eek: Listen to your wife. ;)

Haven't seen that Honda one for a good while, but it is really good. I don't know if it helped their sales but I suppose anything that keeps the public thinking about their cars cannot be bad.

Nilagin. ...you're a product of Ford yourself, we get it

She noticed alright,

As they are very similar, I'm sure she won't notice (y)
:D

But was mainly relieved, as when I'd said that, to mark my mid-life crisis, I was going to get a topless model... she had feared the worst :D

So you got away with it that way Cool :)

I'd give a particular toothpaste or loo roll a whirl on the back of a commercial but I'm not sure any car commercial would make me choose one over the other.

I agree, though what a commercial would do is make me aware of a new car's existence, then I'd check it out, read reviews etc.
The ad wouldn't persuade me to buy it though.

I think the success of an ad campaign will be measured by sales figures of the product it's actually advertising, Being outsold by another manufacturer doesn't mean the ad is crap. By your measure, all Nokia ads are crap by default, because more people buy iPhones.

And all iphone ads crap as they're outsold by Samsung
