Homeless Holga: Formerly "Anyone fancy trying something daft ???"

Winding on can get a little "iffy" on that particular camera - it's usually a sign that the paper backing is rubbing a bit on the take-up spool at one of the flanges. Might be an idea to remove the film in a changing bag and make it light tight before sending it to me for processing.

If helga falls to bits before the rotation is up, I'd be happy to send my holga traveling to the remaining participants (note that due to a cock up in ordering mine is the panoramic pinhole type) - but i don't dev my own film so someone else would need to take that bit on.

I doubt it'll come to that Pete, I Think it might just need a bit of TLC between rolls of film tbh...

probably just as well she's already passed me as i'm of the two tools school of maintenance

Duct Tape - for when it moves when it shouldnt
WD 40 - for when it doesnt move when it should.

If they don't fix it you have correctly diagnosed an electrical fault

ah - i'd have thought you were from the school of "percussive maintenance" Pete... Hit it with a hammer. If that doesn't fix it, you need a bigger hammer (known around here as the Castleford Socket Set!)

Is Helga on her way?

Well - we need someone who's happy to do the film-swap, but if anyone who's left on the list want's to volunteer, I'm happy with that...

I'm fine with the whole film-swap thing if you want to send it my way.

Okay - how's this look to everyone ??

Mark, have you got my address or do I need to pm Sarah?

I think we've done pretty well, that out of all the people who signed up, we haven't had anyone banned or flounce off in a huff yet  It was always going to get a little less definite as time wore on I suppose - I reckon we can just swap any no-reply people out to the end of the list as needed...

Oh - and Nick - if you're feeling generous towards the rest of the people on the list, you could always give the camera a bit of a tune-up between rolls - or failing that, at least check that the shutter is still working as it should:lol:

No problem Mark, I'll give it the once over with the tapping stick :bonk:

Frankly, theres pretty much noting inside the camera, compared to "proper" ones - a wire hair-sprung coil shutter and somewhere for the film to fit into - real secret is using a bit of folded cardboard under the film-spool flanges to give a little "tension" in the film when it's wound on, and to stop it unwinding when it's entrusted to the tender muphys of the post orrifice!

Helga has landed

I'll give her the once over this weekend and report back on her condition.

Latest film arrived this morning from Nick... I'm not going to open the envelope etc. until I'm ready for processing the film - no chance of that today I'm afraid, but might get the chance to do it tomorrow with a bit of luck and a following wind :)

Update: it could take a while longer for the shots... I dug all the kit out, and it looks like I've bust my thermometer. If it'd been a B&W film, I'd have "winged it" but as its colour, I'd sooner be as accurate as I can...

Today's Update II,

Helga has had a bit of a clean up and has been fitted with brand new foam bits to keep the pressure on the film. I've loaded her up with Kodak Professional 160 film and taken the first 2 shots today (and didn't wind on after my last shot) so she is ready for the next leg of her journey, all I need now is the address of the next destination.

next cab off the rank is Rob (robhooley) - i'd PM him and check addresses, as I've 2 of them (term time and otherwise) but, knowing what I was like as a student, the addresses from 12 months ago could be 5 or 6 moonlight-flits out of date

should have given his local pub as a post resante - houses come and go but nothing seperates a student from his local (apart from bounced cheques, unpaid tabs, and getting caught nochalantly walking out with 13 beer glasses stuffed in a jacket sleeve :whistling: )

Nick has my address now, looking forward to receiving the illustrious Helga

You forgot getting barred for shagging the landlords wife while he was in the cellar "barrelling up"...

oh....

Just me then

Oh Mark...... was this recently?:D

long, long ago, in a student existence so far away it seems like another person these days...

Helga has landed on the dark side of the Pennines, looks to be intact :)

Bad news I'm afraid...

Film came out of the soup completely blank... I'm thinking I've stuffed something up I'm afraid :embarrased: as there's only the barest trace of the film frame numbers on the edges to relieve the unremitting orange-ey ness of the strip of fillum :'(

I knew I should have sent it away for processing :'(:'(:'(

feeling sick at the outcome of this roll - it's bad enough to have trashed a roll of film - but to have lost 5 peoples shots just makes it awful :(

Not to worry Mark, if it makes you feel any better I'm pretty sure I left the lens cap on for my shots  despite your cunningly fashioned lens cap reminder attachment.

well - if anyone on that roll want's to go again, I'll kick in another roll of film, and pay the postage around them at the end of the project - any further colour films will be sent away for processing I reckon - I'm just not shooting enough C41 to justify buying another set of processing chemicals... I'm thinking that the Colour Dev, was just completely spent, tbh... I'll probably bash a roll of 35mm through the EOS-3 on auto, and dev. it tomorrow, just to prove it's the chemicals

Hi Mark -sorry to hear about the film and it is a pity for all, but everyone on the list signed up for something "daft" and wanted to be part of the project I seem to remember, so please don't beat yourself up too much for it. See what happens when the EOS 3 results are in.

This thread has inspired me to do something similar at work. I asked around and we have formed a Pentax 9 group - one film - 4 shots each on a charity shop Pentax Espio point and shoot.

I kid you not, I had 3 of the girls in the office wanting to be number "7 of 9" in the group for having their turn with the camera. (Trekkies will understand that one)

So your thread and the fun idea has grown and spread already into other areas.

Anyway, best wishes - you've done your best and Homeless Holga will continue her journey. This is just another chapter in the story.

It's not over yet - more to come :)

Cheers Rhody - but I still feel damned badly about it, and my offer's serious - anyone on that roll that wants a re-shoot, get in touch with me, and I'll sort something...

Never mind mate it happens to all of us once in a while... it's part of the fun! Thanks for organising and running the whole thing.
