Yes
just bought us a home theatre kit (minus the dvd player as we already have one of those) it was half price in comet as they bought a bunch of the kits and the dvd;s were useless, wrong foreign plugs etc etc. so they sold the rest of the kits at half price.

Im a bit p***ed off in as much as they have forgotten to box up 3 of the satellite speakers brilliant! but i already have surround speakers at home so ive plugged those in and got it working. They have also included the wrong remote with it (theyve put in the one for the dvd player which I dont have!!)

The thing I really want to ask is...... i cant turn this down.... i assume i will be able to when i get the correct remote? But i assume that we will have to pick up a separate box just to do the volume every time, instead of doing it with the tv box or sky box like we do now? (my husband's gonna love that....not!! he likes to be able to most everthing with the sky box!)

also,, how will i alter the loudness from each speaker .....with the remote? Will a menu come on the front of the unit? ie sometimes you want the back ones softer etc etc.
Its a Philips HTR 5000 cant find much about it on the net.

I used my well -earned wages from my first portrait shoot on this...and Im a bit p***ed off. Left a message with comet but no ring back. Looks like another 15 mile trip tomorrow to get it sorted. :bat:

Hiya J ... I have a Yamaha unit and the same thing with the volume is true ... not sure it can be done by the sky remote ... and unsure if one of those programmble remotes would do it either ... small price to pay for the output though ...imo !

As for programming ... don't know your Philips system but one has to assume it will be via a menu system ... and probably pulled up by the remote for the system ... I know mine is anyway !

Not sure if that helps at all ...:p

You guys are great! Thanks all. I looked at the pdf and found the remote I have is very slightly different. So I drove the 12 miles back... and found the guy had found the speakers and put them in a bag for me as he didnt hve my phone number.
When i told him about the remote he looked carefully and said it was indeed the one from the dvd player that had originally been with it.
He looked all round the store again and again, then out in the office... then finally when he was about to give up and give me a refund...he had a brainwave and went out the back into the warehouse where the dvd players were waiting to be picked up..... and found one with my remote!!

This guy had worked 45 mins over his home time just to help me...what a star!

Hmm...maybe it is just because I never have good experiences with Comet etc but that sounds like a very odd story! Did you see any sign of more than one of these units? sounds like one of their "managers specials" IE. Dropped, Returned, display model, been used in the staff room. Maybe it is just me - was everything in it original sealed package? guessing not as there were speakers missing. Also if they brought the "kit" I am suprised they were able to return just the dvd players...also I would have thought stock purchases were made in huge stock by Comets buyers then shipped to stores....I don't know, just sounds like an odd sequence of events.

Yeah it does to me too! However... I have a working, 700w surround kit, for £65 Im laughing!! :D
