Hiya guys, im planning on providing in house and client home studio shoots early next year, i have got my list of what to buy all sorted but a little stuck on the sizeof background i will need.

I know i can use a 3x3 3x6m background for my house as i have a huge lounge but what is a good size for client homes?

what size or what background do u guys use?

thanks in advance :D

Hi-lite?

Afraid this is question with no correct answer.... if you are going into monied homes with large rooms, you can take bigger backgrounds... smaller rooms mean smaller backgrounds, and the suggestion of a HiLite is pretty good, as it will only be lower than the ceiling in a very small number of homes, doesnt need stands, and you can get the subjects close to it.

Even with all the stands etc in a 12 ft wide room, you will struggle to get a background much over 8', so the 7x8 HiLite would be a good call for you though its not ideal for large family groups The other problemwith larger groups being that you need either several lights or lights well away from the subject to light large groups.... so you'd need somewhere larger anyway.

Suggest you equip yourself with a range of solutions to suit each place and group size.

Got a group of 13 with my hilite the other weekend. Worked a treat. Definitely a space saver and clients seem to have no concept of how much space they need for a shoot so a good back up if the space you actually have available is a bit tight for a normal roll. They are great for shooting kids too.

Its not about what size background you need, or how many people you can get on it. It is all about how little space you have when you get there, and how obstructed it gets. I cant see you using paper in a home on carpet, and I cant see you getting the space to make any separation between the background and the subject either. On that basis the hi-light is a great bit of kit, and really one of the best options, as it takes up little space, and you can get a sitter very close to it
