What a blinking place!

Read some where in Rome a pedestrian, is either fast or dead!!! emmm yep

We loved it and thanks to everyone for the help and advice. anyone wanna come sort my pictures out for me?

the best 2 tips i think for me were tour guide at the Vatican and hop on hop off bus....

would i go back? I need to go back!! on my own with all the time i want to get the shot i want but we can't always get what we want.

so once again to every one thank you for your in put..

Terri.

What about beating the queues at the Colliseum? Did you get your ticket first at the Palentine Hill??

I caught your thread to late to suggest this but if you do go back then if you visit st Peter's, in the court yard you can find silver disks on the floor, stand on one and all the columns line up so you can only see the front ones, they are mathmatically perfect! :)

Good to hear you enjoyed it, you can go again and again and still want to go back :-)

Try crossing the roads with a push chair, now that's an experience lol

Sounds great and Rome is on my list of places to go for a long weekend, I have been twice but both times I was working and didn't see any of it! :(

no queues as it wasn't open when we got there sorry to say.. was told it was maybe due to the snow and ice.. :'(

Don't worry, it will still be there when you go back! I've been inside the Colosseum a few times, but I still want to visit the underground area below the arena. It's closed at the moment because of flooding last year, and there doesn't seem to be any indication when (if?) it will reopen. The other thing I really want to do is go down into the necropolis at the Roman level below St Peter's Basilica. Haven't a clue whether he was actually buried there, but the idea of walking along a 2000 year old street, deep underground, fascinates me. Don't think they allow photography though.

we couldn't see as much as we wanted due to daughters back so a very good excuse to go back.

our tour Guide at the Vatican was brill for information yes it was a bit pricey but well worth it.

One thing he kept saying was no Photography in the Sistine chapel so how many people where taking pictures? flipping loads of them. i didn't but i am funny about things like that.

Didn't think that you could - as when we went just over a year ago it wasn't possible....

If you can go down then we'll be going back for a weekend break...

You could get access to the underground levels and the 3rd (upper) level from about Sept 2010 - late 2011, but only by booking a guided tour in advance. There were groups in the hypogeum when we visited in Jan 2011. The tours were stopped because of flooding, and I don't think there's any indication when they're going to start again. There's some talk of a major restoration project and that might delay it too.
