what a weekend....small intimate wedding on friday....grand beautiful wedding on Sunday...

This was my 1st weddings of this season and boy was it a great welcome back to the wedding scene:

+ Friday was lovely, short and sweet and i even managed to cull and post edit by Mid day saturday. The venue and location was a bit challenging but i still managed to get some great shots. It was a nice introduction to registry weddings and smaller celebrations.

+ Sunday saw my biggest wedding to date...i was a guest but also the official tog (yes it added to the stress, especially when people where offering me drinks). I'd spent a good few weeks planning for this. My intention is to use it in sample album. From start to finish it was a lovely day...i got all the shots I (and the couple) wanted and more...a quick look through the 1700 (yes 1700!!) photos has revealed some crackers....quick cull down to 1100 and a further selection of the best has left me with around 300 possible album shots!!!! :)

+ Now for the hard work, post edit, album creation....Although i spent an hour or so forcing myself to use lightroom yesterday and low and behold its brilliant.....i can organise, rate photos, quickly edit and turn round an album/ CD much quicker (and i still think i'm doing it slow)!!!
For the rest of the year i shall be utilising LR!!

+ Finally, i borrowed a back up camera over the weekend, whilst shooting and chatting with the videographer (who's a friend) i found out i can hire a Canon 5Dii from my work place....:D BONUS!!!! (and here's me working out how i can afford to get one!!)

Role on next wedding!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Danmon_81

I am a wedding photographer and I am finding I am spending ALOT of time in post production. I normally organise my photographs in Bridge (delete, rate, label, etc)

I then put all the remaining images through Adobe Raw (exposure, remove clipping, vibrancy, WB, contrast, etc.)

I then save all of the images with their respective .XMP's and start putting the images through their paces in Photoshop (sizing, cropping, sharpening, creative editing, saving PSD's & JPEG's etc)

I have been considering using Lightroom for some time now but I am seriously worried about the quality and functionality of the programme.

I am a veteran Photoshop user and the thought of using any other software to edit my images actually scares me a little bit.

How do you think Photoshop compares to Lightroom?

May I see a sample of your shots? May be then we can say if it is possible to recreate it in Lightroom.

All my photos in my site is edited in Lightroom, there is no way i could go through what you go through with Bridge - PS and open and close and save each one at a time.

EDIT - just saw your site, yes, you can do all that in LR.

I do everything in LR3 these days. The only time I open CS5 is if:-

1) I want to do some spot removals - I don't like LR3 for this
2) I want to clone something
3) I want to apply a vignette that is off-centre

And that's it. So I can safely say that from a wedding 90% of my images never go into CS5 at all.

And to Danmon_81 - great to see you're busy - now let's see the pictures :D

Thumbs up for Lightroom also. I do everything in LR and Although I have CS5 I find I never touch it now.

I like the set as a whole but a couple of nit picks.

1. looks very soft but could be the upload

3. I know there is movement in the shot but I feel her eyes are ever so slightly OOF and just misses it becoming a super shot

4. New shoes on a table ids frowned upon by many folk, just be aware.

Now you look like you have some close up shots nailed, try and get some wider ones with the couple in for more drama of their surroundings.

cheers for the feedback guys (i spend time on your site Tom...love your work!!!)...its defo an upload thing...much sharper original.
Yep your right slightly OOF (low light)
I iknew something was frowned upon withe the shoes on an item of furniture...couldn't remember which...couldn't resist the reflection shot.

Got some wider shots i'll try and post up...i always feel like i loose the couple in a wider shot...maybe its me.

I am keen PS user as well (was editing pictures long before I started taking them) and I'm also thinking about buying LR to use it together with PS. This video (altough very simple) got me thinking. Maybe my workflow can be improved by investing in LR (LR4 is £100, so not too bad).

I wonder how difficult it would be to take the reception sign out of 8, maybe clone in the block that's by her backside? As it is the sign is the first thing to draw my eye :s

Would get rid of the mini self portrait at the same time :).( just see you in the reception plaque on right side).. There's also the edge of the sign and the other oof sign on and to the right of the white pillar they're leaning on.

Chris: that seems awfully complicated.

Why not just:

1. Import everything into Lightroom
2. Rate all your keepers with a 1 then filter on 1s
3. Run through them all again and rate images you will present to your client with a 2. Filter on the 2s.
4. Mark any red, green and blue along the way
5. Make any LR edits you need
6. Export everything in LR, it will do your small jpegs, full res images for clients etc.
7. Upload and burn to DVD etc.

There, 22 steps down to 7 :)

Thank you for looking at my workflow and making suggestions but I don't think your suggestions cover everything my workflow achieves. I have worked and reworked my workflow and I honestly don't think there is a more holistic method of post-producing my images.

These are some of the things my workflow covers:

1. Strong folder hierarchy for archiving, backing-up, future editing, etc..
2. Creates multiple sets of images with varying file sizes for several purposes.

Plus, as a personal preference, I prefer using Adobe RAW for corrective editing, i.e. Exposure, clipping, vibrancy, contrast, fill, etc as I feel it is more effective and doesn't require any additional labour or time.

Kind Regards

Chris

P.S. I am still open to suggestions :)
