Holryn's Photo 52 - Part 2 - Weeks 48, 49 & 50 added.

TRANSFORM: Well done, Paul - you don't pick the easy option do you? :D

My only suggestion would be to rotate the bulb a few degrees anti-clockwise so that the 'upright' part of the filaments are pointing across the frame a bit more. I like the use you've made of negative space, but it feels a bit cramped at the top. I hope that makes sense! :)

Well done on a really, really difficult subject.:clap::clap:

Edit: I was typing this as you posted Mobile. I've skipped over mobile 'cos I haven't done mine yet! :-)

Thanks Jean. Understand what you are saying and I think you're right.

Although this may look like the obvious choice yours is the first one i have seen. Great colours and i love the abstract feel to this, it could be a contemporary advert for this phone. what is the backdrop here it works really well.

Thanks for the comments Chris. The background is the casing on my router. I just propped the phone up and took the photo.

Maybe uninspired but not unoriginal. The only mobile phone so far and you've made a good job of it. Composition and lighting are very nice and that background is perfect. Nice job

... and it's a good job I didn't take a quick look at it, since I've chosen the same boring subject.

However, I like your take on it and the blue textured background adds interest. My only suggestion would be to have included all of the 'wxyz9' key, but I think it's streets ahead of mine, so I'm not in a position to niggle about it! Well done on a good interpretation of an everyday object.

Jean

No much to it really. Just a white background against a window. A little distance between the background and subject. Took the shot wide open at 1.8 on my 50mm with diffused on-board flash. Tweaked in PP to completely whiten the background. The room wasn't particularly bright. I can take a shot of the set-up if you wish.

Thanks Paul . . . I think I can see what you mean. I'll have to try this out

Transform : I thought about this idea for electric . . . for about a second . . . before deciding that it was just too difficult. But you've executed it brilliantly.
Agree with Jean that a slight rotation would have made it perfect, but it really does work very well just as it is.

I also like your mobile shot. It may have been the obvious interpretation, but the angle and the blue background give it a nice twist.

As has already been said above Paul, an interesting take on an evryday object. Your choice of composition, dof, lighting and background makes for a good photograph which could be an advertisement image. The colours work well too. All round, good job. Iain

Maybe an obvious subject but you have brought it off really well - nice composition, colours and DOF. The background really lifts it - well done!

Transform, I like that. Very hard to get right, but it looks good to me. I think Jean has it with the advice on the rotation.

Mobile, I like the background you've chosen, it really helps make it more interesting than just a shot of a mobile phone. The composition and DOF work really well.

Nice shot of the mobile .. it looks like an advert.

Thank you for your comments Sarah. I will have a go at the edit for Transform as Jean has suggested and post it up soon.

I like it, especially the background, works well ;)

Thank you all for you kind words.

A bit pressed for time again but here we go. Decided on an abstract image for this week.

Again, probably a little obvious but I quite like how this turned out:

As usual all comments and suggestions appreciated. I will be along tomorrow to catch up on everyone's threads- its been a long day :shake:

Hi Paul I saw these on flickr and I have to say I like number 2 with the candles I also like the dof and colour cast, good work

I like the "hot spot" of the lit candle against the other cold looking candles

Very pleasant image for surfaces that is well lit. But your image for light is an absolute cracker. Simple and clean with great exposure and dof. Excellent photograph

I agree with what Darren said, the photograph for surfaces is well lit and composed, works well as an abstract. Light is just fantastic, it has a good feel to the photograph, composition works well and dof is just right. Iain

two more great shots.
Surfaces, nice abstract idea and interesting to look at, took me a while to convince myself they were drops as i kept seeing a cheese grater:D

Light, another neat idea, nice and crisp, good use of dof and composition is strong:thumbs:

lots to comment on

Grace
the colour version is fantastic - love it

Endings
the first picture is the best IMHO
focus nicely controlled

Surfaces
no idea what they are - but very pleasing to the eye
good saturation and composition

Light
nice idea
wish I'd thought of that!
excellent execution again

I like the idea, and in my humble opinion the DOF is perfect. Nice going mate.

Surfaces was worth waiting for. Beautiful colours and a really striking abstract. I particularly like the horizontal reflections (blinds?) across it.

But light is absolutely outstanding !
Shot of the week for me. This is just my type of thing and I think you've executed it brilliantly.
Angle, composition and DoF are perfect. Love the colour contrast between the orange glow and the cold blue - particularly the way the glow spills over onto the surrounding tealights.

There's nothing else I can say. I just absolutely love this

Surfaces: This really appeals to me - the colours, composition and lighting are all tops.

Light: Another excellent shot, Paul. It's deceptively simple, but you've brought together all the right ingredients and I like the way the light casts the shadows of the unlit wicks into little patterns.

Jean

Surfaces, I really like it, all the components come together nicely. I couldn't decide initially if this was cheese graters or CD's with water drops... the bands also really help.

Light, as the others have said, superb. It all works really well, and the colours of the light are spot on.

I really like the concept with the candles. I like the way you have a cool blue light contrasting with the warm glow from the candle.

Stuart

Thats a very pleasant picture you have done for Light. I like the way there is just one little candle lit.

I like the "hot spot" of the lit candle against the other cold looking candles

Thanks for the comments. I am really pleased with the way the colours came out in the candle shot.

Thanks guys. Never occurred to me that it looks a little like a cheese grater.

Thanks for your comment Mike, much appreciated.

'Surfaces' is actually three overlapping CDs with water droplets on them.

Two really good images. I love the abstract for surfaces. The colours are beautiful.

Very clever take on the light theme. I like everything about it - DOF, colours, lighting - very well thought through.

Jenny

Thank you again for your kind comments Sarah. Always a pleasure to receive such positive feedback, and 'shot of the week' too. I feel humbled.

Thank you Jean. I spent a while lining up the wicks in different ways but ended up just 'standing' them up. If you look carefully, the indentations from the wicks are at 120 degrees and 240 degrees on alternating lines. Is that sad? :cuckoo:

Decided to mock up a 'project', from a few bits from the shed. :)

Not the most 'technical' of shots, I know.

I really like you LIGHT image, great colour, DOF and concept, well done ;)

Project: this is a tough one, this is a good take on the subject matter
