Its great fun though it can be very windy. If your going paddling or rafting then beware of the trent-belly!

i wont be getting wet! LOL (well not intentionally :) )

If anybody fancy's making a trip of it we could put an interest thread up, i like to try stuff i haven't done before

I popped down for an afternoon some years back (When I had my old 10D!) and it is a very good and accessible course.
If anyone fancies a meet there count me in!

I was there competing in the 'National Student Rodeo' last year and did a bit of togging while I was at it. As above - very accessible so you can get nice and close for some classic facial expressions.

If a meet is on the cards and its kayak freestyle you're after (rather than slalom or rafting) then the Rodeo this year would be a cracking weekend to go. It will be crazy busy buy there will be LOADS to see (different heats on different parts of the course at times). The mens and ladies 'expert' final is an amazing sight to see with some BIG air. It's the 7th and 8th March this year. I can get times of specific heats if people are interested.

Great info there Sam, i'd be interested in that

Robert - Great set on your website. Do you know the paddlers?

Sam - Yeah I know most of them ;-)

I was at the Rodeo last year, I'll be there this year too - I'm really looking forward to it, hoping to go up a day or two early!

As others have said its a very accesible place for photography, you can literally get anwhere along the course you want and get some really good angles.

It would be nice to get dates and times of the heats if thats possible!

I reckon I can get some time free on the 7th or 8th if anyone is meeting up - sounds like good fun!

perhaps the mods should move this to the meetings forum as there seems interest in it :)

Cool. Well, Robert and I will be there so there's an informal mini-meet already. The NSR 2009 website is live but pretty emtpy so we may have to wait for a bit for times etc

The wild water course at Holme Pierrepont is closed at the moment while they change (SPOIL) it.

A lot of arguments has gone on in the canoe/kayak/rafting world over the changes which are designed to make it a pure slalom course. Work is due to be complete mid to late February.

The course has to be ready in May as it host the European Slalom Championship 28th - 31st May 2009

The changes to HPP aren't as bad as was once proposed.

I can really recommend the National Student Rodeo as an event to photograph, There is some genuinely world class playboating plus lots of fun stuff people going down in home made boats and lots of other crazy stuff

Plus, it would be nice to have a decent photo of ME paddling for once! Come on TP, do it for me

sounds good, when is it?

:woot: 7th and 8th of March

should we start a meet thread?

Man, that looks awesome. Id love to photograph some events there! Its a shame i dont drive and cant really get there as nottingham is only around an hour away from Peterborough :(

Just to let you all know that the NSR is THIS WEEKEND (It got moved)

It should be an amazing weekend with lots to see and lots of interesting stuff to photograph!

Paddle HPP a few times and its a nice easily accessable place if you wanna go take a few photos. The best spots for shooting are probably the muncher/plughole, the inlet gate and what was known as the looping pool (now cafe wave iirc). If you look around for course maps you should see the features, they'll be your best bet for some nice photos of the freestyle paddlers. If its slalom you want then just wonder the course and try and catch people.

DOH!!! i have plans this weekend and i was so looking forward to it as well!

b****r, the weather forecast for the weekend is none so pleasant. I have no plans so if I can do it without a drenching I'll come along.

Funny - I thought it was PADDLEFEST this weeknd. I have a stand and am booked to give talks and demos on the water.......sea kayaking though, none of this wild water stuff.

I have just loaded the trailer with 5 kayaks to take along......hope things haven't changed because the organisers of the expo haven't told me anything!

According to the NSR site, it looks like the NSR and Paddlefest are both on at the same time.
