Holidays - give me some ideas

I am looking to go for one to two weeks at the end of April, flying from either Gatwick or Heathrow. I don't want the hassle of driving/parking, so will be looking at taxis.
I initially thought Bratislava for one week, but direct flights are from Luton or Stanstead. Other thoughts are Prague, Madrid, Budapest, Bucharest or Dubrovnik.
What are the best and most transparent (regarding luggage) airlines, where you can each take one cabin luggage and one small bag.
 
I guess its firstly what do you want?
my fave place (where i now have a house) is Gran Canaria all the fun and sun, beaches, water sports, cycling and all the euro food etc.

maybe not the best for "culture" though

Depends on which area,there are some parts that are still typically Spanish

Depends on what you want to do when you get there,of course mine is photography,the other half prefers the sun and swimming, I often look around and find I'm on my own when I'm behind the camera, only to find the other half has walked off and sitting outside a restaurant having a drink.

Growing up in Spain and only moving to England just before my 14th birthday,I still prefer Spain, this year we're off to Menorca, the smaller of the Balearic islands,but still picturesque.

I'm hoping to get back to Croatia next year, on the Adriatic side, a beautiful place called Rovinj.

I've had no trouble with Jet 2 taking my Billingham camera bag plus a small bag,

Cavtat in Croatia is lovely and isn't far from Dubrovnik. Mostar in Bosnia is within range if hiring a car for the day. Some nice island boat trips you can book for the day as well.

Ljubljana in Slovenia with Canyon Walks, Lake Bled and multiple castles, chocolate museum etc.

A mate of mine did the the five "Stans" of The Silk Road: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and said it was amazing. I think you can book the whole thing as a single excursion.

We also liked Cyprus, although perhaps not a good time to go.
 
Not sure the 'stans are that safe at the moment, either!
 
Many years ago I did a 3 week tour of Europe, ferry to Zeebrugge, some of the Countries I visited were Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Monaco, each had it's bonuses, Switzerland is very scenic and super clean,I love Italy,I really need to get back, the north is great for the lakes and mountains, the German forests are great, and again very scenic.
Again,it really depends on what you want from a holiday, I'm not one for sitting around the pool,or parked on the beach all day, I'd rather be out seeing the country.

Another option is to fly to Vienna, then train to Bratislava.

Thanks to the small disagreement in the Arabian Sea, prices for flights closer to home are shooting up as a lot of people are having to rethink their holiday plans. I do know of some people who've planned flights via Dubai/Doha and will be disappointed. On our flight next month to Delhi I did consider Qatar but chose BA direct.

I was looking at that option yesterday, may even stay in Vienna and use it as a base. The trains are very reasonable and I have seen a nice hotel in Vienna which we stayed at in 2019 and it is only £130 a night.

I'm booked to fly to Thailand via Doha from Manchester with Qatar Airways on 11th April and still have a confirmed booking... Currently Qatar are operating a much reduced schedule and there is a daily flight from MAN to DOH.... Have read on their website that if I have a confirmed booking they will contact me with updated flight details for the destinations they are currently operating which includes Bangkok. Yes, I am holding off cancelling my plans

Have a friend who is flying out tomorrow, he cancelled his Gulf Air flights and switched to Etihad for a pretty decent price. Flights avoiding the Middle East have skyrocketed, but Qatar, Emirates and Etihad are still offering good deals...
 
that's good to know, skies overhead are still busy (under the LHR flightpath) and I suspect a problem of lot of people will have is booking their flights and accommodation separately. So, I hope your flights still go ahead.

Accommodation is not a problem for us, we have a house out there... it's our holiday/retirement home.

Bumped into my friend again today and he told me another mutual friend was airborne today with Emirates, heading for Thailand and that when he was at check-in they made a flight change for him so he was only transiting in Dubai for 3 hours, instead of his expected 8 hour transit.
 
Cavtat in Croatias really nice regular ferries and buses to Dubrovnik and day trips to Montenegro. Prague is also great if you like old cities.
