Holidays 2023

Looking forward to a 9 day holiday in Greece next year. We’re doing 2 days in Athens, then off to Mykonos for a couple of days, then Naxos for a couple of days and finally Santorini for 3 days before flying back.

Think we may need another holiday after that! :ROFLMAO:

Should be good. Do you have a plan for Athens (apart from the acropolis) or will you work it out as you go?

Hope so! Never done an island hopping type thing before so a new experience. Other than the Acropolis nothing planned for Athens at present. No doubt the Wife will have a full itinerary for us by the time we go!

Well we went by 3/4 times but queued out the door, museum appeared open but the need to eat overruled a visit, home tomorrow, mosquitoes will need to go hungry then, damn things.
Yep in Funchal, staying in Penha de Franca -not far from Ronaldo's hotel- so easy walk to town, will check out that place, always like recommendations, know a couple of good places since we've been to the island before but thanks, more the merrier.

Just booked an all inclusive 7 days in Hurghada for our Golden wedding anniversary in March. We finished up having to spend 1K more than what we wanted in order to get something that didn't have poor reviews, places are still so expensive.

well im sick of the cold and the doom and gloom of the new prime minister already so booked a quick week away mid November to Cyprus for me, the missus, all the kids and grandchildren...never been before, be good just to unwind in the sun( hopefully) and drink a few beers with the family...who knows by the time i get back we might have another prime minister
had a week in Paphos...i cant say that il be rushing back, weather was decent, hotel fair to middly the hotel staff were nice as were a couple of restaurant we went into...but apart from that probably the unfriendliest locals ive met...almost like southerners ...some nice roman ruins about if your into that kind of stuff...roll on Spain in January

Planning underway, Feb/March for the first and maybe every 3 months after that.

I’m yet to decide on the summer holiday, but if the weather is ok I’ll do the NC500 in February.

ive done it in march and it was brilliant, 1 afternoon of rain in the 5 days( mind you the rain was coming at me sideways) loads of accommodation available, the roads were extra quiet, i went for one section with not seeing another person or vehicle for 45 miles, the only downside of this is if you have an off and end up in a ditch there's a good chance you will not be found, ive also planned to do it in april and there was 6 foot of snow over the cairngorms...so you take your chances, looking at webcams at braemar theres only a few inches of snow at the side of the roads at the moment but no doubt it will be deeper up over the top ...good luck and dont book any accommodation till you have seen the weather

China have finally opened up! So the Mrs can get back to see her family for the first time in 3 years. So that's summer sorted. I'd love to go back to Italy in the first half of the year to spend a little more time in Verona and Florence than we spent in Nov.

Off to Lanzarote in February, booked yesterday.

Madeira in March for 2 weeks for herself’s birthday and our anniversary.

My wife family asked us not to come back yet as by all accounts it’s rather mad there with covid just now.. everyone has covid , which is having a knock on affect to everything and there are lines around the block to even enter hospitals‍♂️.

Think we will wait till Easter or summer next year.

Booked our first non china holiday abroad, to Crete in August.. now just having to deal with visas

off for a quick week in sunny benidorm next thursday, not my favourite place to visit, but a week in the sun with 20 of the lads in all this driech weather is not to be sniffed at, strip opposite the hotel consists of a club, Irish pub, curry house, doctors, lap dancing bar, chippy, curry house and a club...so dont even have to stagger far

That sounds like hell on Earth to me!

Does it? Or is it that having lived in Spain I know what a beautiful, varied country it is. Outside of Benidorm.

I've seen Spain outside of Benidorm and it's a beautiful place (in places) but hell on earth may be a little bit strong for all except possibly the lap-dancing bar (I quite accept that may be hell for some of the women working there). It's not a place I'd naturally choose to visit.

I did put a wink smilie in there too - but I'm pretty sure the costa del Marioupol is closer to hell right night.

Aachen for us again and trips out by rail, perfect base for that.
Wuppertal where my wife's friend lives and Schwebebahn for me to ride on and photograph.
Essen has an industrial museum we want to visit and Dusseldorf for an Altbier or three.
SchönerTagTicket NRW are a bargain, €49 for up to five people after 9.00am and all day weekends

Looking for a place to go in the summer. I want somewhere hot, near to some cultural stuff and nice shopping. A nice pool is a must, as is a good view.
I‘m going through the travel apps but can’t see the wood for the trees!

honestly i hate Benidorm, but the lad who's birthday it is has a villa not far from it and wants to spend some time getting it ready when the rest of us go home, no decent sized hotels in his village so we are going, trabajé en españa durante 5 años y sí, hay más que bares y playas ;)

Got 5 nights booked in a glamping 'pod' in a few weeks time. February in Dumfries and Galloway should be fun......and toasty.

Just booked us a treat for our 32nd wedding anniversary in July. A week at a spa hotel in Jersey. We honeymooned in Jersey although on a much tighter budget!

Enjoyed Jersey last year - if you are into it, Jersey War Tours was excellent!

Is that the tunnels? Ivisitem them when it was the German Underground Hospital. Sadly, not wheelchair accessible.

They are good too by I was thinking of a different tour where you visit different places, normally 3 or so but no, not wheelchair accessible.

Booked 15 days at the end of June...

Day one 300 miles 5hrs 11 drive to Travelodge Ashford .. (Booked)

Day 2 our first ever channel tunnel crossing (Booked £220 -always used ferry before) and drive to Luxembourg northern quarter. aftrenoon stop then continue to top end of Black Forest just before Stuttgart for Best Western Hotel Total 441 miles 7hrs 7 mins drive (avoiding tolls)

Day 3 Drive 388 miles 7hr 2 min drive time to Rum/Innsbruck where we have booked a flat (first floor or 2 floor building) for 9 nights/10 days stay... Mountian views from own balcony and a sauna :) its a 8 minute walk to station and 9 minute train into center of innsbruck)
While there we will go for an overnight stay in venice... Not booked this yet as cant see train times so will decide if 4 hr drive or train in new year) also planned outings to switzerland and other places ...

3 day trip back but havent organised that yet :) but channell tunnel and same tarvelodge in ashton booked.. just need overnight stay and different route from innsbruck to calaise

car serviced and proper full check before going.. also as am in RAC goingfor there holiday abroad package.. 320 quid i think and your covered for everyhting inc rent car to see your holiday out .. Its a BMW 320d 2 ltr diesel but its old.. however... I drive a thousand miles in a weekend no problem and its 1100 miles to innsbruck so shouldnt be too much of a problem..

I am lucky that i love driving.. Because I ahve never been on or will ever go on a plane :)

Anyhone drove a simmilar route? I ahve driven around europe before but mainly france and spain

PS this was a holiday planned just before covid and was going to be for a month.. had to tone it down to 2 weeks.... I like the look of innsbruck and its a good point to go places from... Top of my list is venice .. long time desire... finally get there :)

:( well... didnt see that coming :(

Due to ill health on my part I have had to cancel the whole holiday :(
I managed to get all my money back for the long stay and the over nights... I couldn't get a refund of £220 for the channell tunnle so thats lost :(

As a non flyer and a lover of driving it was a dream holiday.. But it looks like my long driving days are gone as well

So.. Not to be put off.. I can't have a holiday this year.. But have already made plans for the followng year.. same plan same destination BUT ... Train Preston to London... London to Paris.. Paris to Zurich and finally Zurich to Innsbruck .... Only £400 to hire a car when there for outings around the country... Overnight stop in Paris and afternoon stop in Zurich means 2 days travel each way with 6 hrs train travel per day ... Train cost is less than the drive as apart from fuel it was £340 for extra RAC cover plus it was two overnight stops each way when driving..

Wiht the dissapointment of this year.. next year really has to happen.. i will be 67 and wondering when I am too old haha

I will get there by hook or by crook :) :)

Preston to London -- 3 hrs
London to Paris ---- 3 hrs 20
Paris to Zurich ---- 2 hrs 6
Zurich to Innsbruck- 3 hrs 26

Sorry to hear that. When was your crossing and would it be transferrable? We're planning to go at the end of April.

Last year's house move fell through, so we are aiming to try again this year, in which case no holidays (although I will probably be over in Northern Ireland on business for a couple of week-long trips so should have some time for togging there then). If the move doesn't look like happening, I'm hoping to get 5 days or so in central Portugal at some point, exploring, walking, togging.

Madeira 3 weeks on Monday, not that someone is counting.

@mj4456, Madeira is lovely

Our son has booked a cottage in Llandudno North Wales for May next year.
Son and his wife, their two young daughters.
Me and the good Mrs. plus plenty cameras. Not forgetting Bucket and Spade :)
