No
in my area schools out between 1-3 weeks depending whether you are private or public. Yet morning commuting traffic and train travellers doesn't seem to have died down at all.

This is very different compared to previous years. A shame as I enjoy commuting in July and August. Anyone else experiencing the same? Is everyone going later, or are they all going later just to annoy me? ;)

Appears to be less traffic should you commute in the "mummy taking Tarquin and Jocasta to school in the 4x4" hour - mind you "posh" kids have been on holiday for a couple of weeks now.

However in their infinite wisdom Norfolk County Council / Norwich City Council have decided on massive roadworks on pretty much every way to work so less traffic negated by temporary traffic lights and congestion.

Lol yes we have now the roadworks and the traffic. Our big 4x4 is off the road though as my children are off.

Depends on the day. On changeover day, traffic heading out of the area is heavy but not too bad in the morning but by the afternoon/evening, the quality of driving drops sharply with loads of lost cars full of tired children and irritable parents...

So far so good down here, 20 minutes instead of 40 to get in and MPG over 58. And I overslept a bit

Noticeably quieter where I am in the mornings. I put it down to parents being on holiday as well as the kids reducing the number of commuters, rather than them driving their children to school.

However, Friday evenings there is the inevitable buildup on the southbound M5 which spills back onto the roads approaching the junctions.

Dunno I have been working in Erskine for a year.
Whats Traffic?

:rage::rage::rage:

Hit rush hour on the way home. Took me nearly 20 minutes to get the 5 miles home... Most of which is a 30 limit anyway!

We have a few thousand tourists on the roads down here right now....we call them truck drivers :-)
They have a nice long camp on the M20...complete with portaloos!

Maybe someone should send the French unions the bill...

Actually, kent police are invoicing every other police force in the uk :lol

But there's a powow tomorrow to see whom else they can hit up

I suggested that ages ago, along with moving the French trucks to the back of the queue, until its cleared.

Oh and while VOSA are at it, they can inspect every foreign truck while they stationary, they don't even have to go hunting for them ;)

I live in a tourist town in the west midlands. When the schools break up for the summer, the traffic is lighter for about one day, then the whole town is full of holiday makers (or foreigners as we like to call them).

There's a tourist town in the west midlands? ??? ;)

Strange as it may seem, there is and it's a fine one at that. Bridgnorth, has many things going for it, The severn valley railway, an old castle, cliff railway, the river severn and many, many more wonderful things. Well that's my bit for the Bridgnorth tourist board.

kids aren't prerequisite for driving a nice car. If bored I could lap around the city hall and green party headquarters all day... :)

Very strange indeed that tourists would find anything of interest outside of London! What a blasphemy! Warwickshire and Worcestershire have some of the finest English towns.

True but it's the locals in those towns. Have you met them? They are weird; they smile and say hello to you and the tourists. Come on you've got to agree thAt that is not right.

Im heading to the Newquay area on Saturday so expect the journey will take 9 hours or so from West Yorkshire

We usually travel down to the Bristol area Friday and overnight in a cheap hotel and do the rest at about 6am the following morning but er indoors wont take the extra day off work on Friday

We always set off back around 4am so we miss all the rest of the holiday makers who hit the A30 around 8am onwards, as long as were onto the M5 heading north by 8am we always have a clear run home.

Swings & roundabouts for me.....

Traffic going to work is generally quieter (leave for work at 06:50 and normally get there around 07:35 but have been there before 07:30 since the holidays started) but going home is a different matter.

"Work" is at the back end of a leisure complex (Festival Leisure Park, Basidon for anyone who knows it), if you leave at the same time a film at the cinema has ended it can take 10 mins just to get to the main road(s).

I live just past the famous seaside resort of Southend-on-Sea, if the weather's nice the seafront is a no go area which is a pain as my I drop my cousin of in that area so now I've resorted to cutting through the town centre.... doesn't make a massive difference but wipes out any time gain in the mornings

Normally we'd have a clear run to work but the council have decided the summer hols is the perfect time for road works. There's one roadwork on the main a-road near us which diverts traffic through my work route. There's another planned roadwork in a few weeks that will directly affect my route. Feckers.

Better in the mornings, but rubbish still in the evenings around Manchester...

So being friendly and polite is weird? Maybe in London it is... I know which one I prefer :)

ROFLMAO I think you've just proven my point ;)

Good luck with that Gary. We drove from Chelmsford to Lands End about 4 weeks ago (before schools broke up) and that took over 9 hours ! And you have further to drive.
Had a ridulously easy drive down to Newquay today, digitlal live traffic through the inbuilt DAB receiver on my new Sat Nav was superb, lots of 50mph restrictions on the M1 but no issues there, Sat Nav took me off the M5 on 2 seperate occasions, i laughed my socks off as i drove parralel and over the M5 and traffic was at a standstill for mile after mile, it later took me off the A30 and onto the A395 and A39 to go into Newquay via the Atlantic Highway via Camelford and Wadebridge which ment i also missed all the roadworks on the A30, set off at 6am and got there at 2.05pm with a meak break at MichaelWood services and a short tea break at a roadside layby truck stop

"Live" sat navs are worth their weight in gold (y)
Yes they are very good, Waze is brilliant on my phone...But I must admit that the Command system in our main family car was superb on Friday during the big get-away.

The best one I ever had, built in, was the traffic master system,
I had it in a few company cars / vans.
If you had an issue that they hadn't spotted, you could talk to someone live and they would sort it,
if the system hadn't updated quick enough.

Not cheap and there was a yearly subscription too, although there are strong competitors now ;)

Yes I used to have a talking box of traffic master, was very good. I think one of their key sources was the Stobart fleet.

They moved on to a touch screen as well,
so you didn't have to dial them up every time you needed a route.
They had a massive client base, but TBH ( they used to be one of my customers)
the control room staff, went from about 20 - 25 down to about 5 or 6 and about 2 years ago, the last time I used them, the system fell over at least once aweek, from my experiance,
not good, not good at all.
I hope they have improved again, in light of the now, very much stiff competition.

And that is the problem of the current generation who want it all cheap or better for nothing....With systems like Waze, also owned by Google, it is hard to compete on quality...

I must admit that I have no idea what that is but yes I agree, its a sign of the times ;)

Roflmao :)

I bought the Grmin Nuvi 2699 which was reduced at Currys to £169, i bought it on the same day i put a post on here in the bargain section that Currys also had a 20% off code making mine approx £136, beautiful 6" IPS touchscreen, Voice control and FREE map updates and free live digital traffic through the inbuilt DAB receiver, my car so no extra cables and no need to link to your smartphone for the live traffic updates, my Ford Kuga has a heated element in the front screen which can make the DAB receiver to wonky if the Nav is placed in the middle but i always have mine to the far right of the screen where theres a 3" gap in the screen heating element, worked brilliantly.

A like especially for putting the Satnav out of the way :) I would give two if I could.

I never understand why some people have it slap bang in the middle of their vision, either,
Mines central, but low, all it "covers" is the centre section of the bonnet
I would give two if I could.
You un like it, and like it again, and repeat as many times as you think fit :D

I can just imagine the staff room; "look at that idiot" whilst munching on the java cakes. :p
