now I'm off to Tenerife next Friday for a week. Now I have looked on maps etc and I know of the national park there which is close to puerto de la cruz where I am staying. I was just wondering if anyone have any shots or tips on where to go roughly i think i want to get some morning sunrise shots and also maybe some mountain range shots of teide. Well any information really would be nice.

Well thanks in advance for your tips etc...

Can't offer advice about that but check out the camera stores over there, hey offer some pretty good bargains and there are lots of them. I stayed in Playas Del Americas last year and there is a shopping centre near the beach that is crammed with photographic stores.

Tenerife is a beautiful place once you're clear of the shanty towns holiday complexes. Most of these are in the south. Puerto de la Cruz is much nicer.

I went with university and didn't get much chance to explore so I can't recommend too many locations, but there's a couple I remember as particularly nice.
Be sure to go in to the caldera. There are some stunning views of Teide from there, particularly near the Roques de Garcia if I remember right. The Orotava and Guimar valleys on the N & S sides of the dorsal ridge are quite spectacular (P de la C is in the bottom of the Orotava). They are vast amphitheatre-shaped hollows with extremely steep side and headwalls. From the top of them, the views are excellent. The Orotava particularly gives some great views over towards Teide. I remember the terrain on the NW corner of the island being pretty wonderful too. Lots of deep, wooded valleys (when the cloud's not down). Oh and try to see the observatory. I didn't visit it, but there's some great pictures of it floating around the web.
Just a word of warning- when you get to any kind of altitude, UV levels go through the roof do not forget the sunscreen. It's a painful mistake to make. On a related note, you may need a UV filter.

I hope you'll share your photos when you get back. Have fun!

With the pound worth about 1,20 € I don't think you'll find many bargains nowadays. I haven't been out for a couple of years, since I sold my timeshare, but I remember that a Rolex watch that cost £2350 in the UK tax paid, was £2700 in Las Americas and you'd still be liable for vat and import duty bringing it into the UK, making it very expensive.

You also need to watch a lot of these shops as they sell refurbished stuff as new and a few aren't above doing a bait and switch, (:cough: Palace Electronics) especially if you go in on a Monday or Thursday night, as it's a fair bet you're going home the next day...

thanks every one i wont be buying any kit there anyway need to say the pennys! Thanks very mush matt for all the tips. i will look for them later and mark them on my map ive got.

There is a balloon you can go up on in Los Cristianos and a crackin Irish bar nearby!

Is that just across from that awful hotel with the pillars and lions and stuff like that?

If you could get over to Los Gigantes or even take a boat tour round the cliffs they are impressive and good for photos.

One thing I forgot to mention:
Puerto de la Cruz and the northern side of the island can get very cloudy or foggy. If this is the case and it doesn't look like it's going to make for very good photos, head south or head up. It's not normally cloudy in the south, and most of the island sticks up above any cloud that forms near the coast

When you travel over the mountains from South to North it's amazing how you leave brilliant sunshine and blazing heat, travel through the low-lying clouds and come out in the much cooler north.

thanks everyone.
well I heard it gets cloudy but i am planning on going up into the mountain anyway, and also i dont plan to do much in the main day anyway only sunset and sunrise. unless the sky is really good and its not to contrasty.

Ps. I also need to hire a car yet.
