Holiday snaps with a difference viral!

Nice idea and like the concept but the HDR looks is not to my taste they don't look real
 
Don't understand the cynicism.... aside from liking the series (and actually not minding the HDR used), I suspect the HDR treatment is giving the images the composited look because it does have a 'different' quality. It's been laid on thick, no doubt - look at the haloing in some shots and the noise in skies, clear indicators of things nudging '10' - but nonetheless, it's a great concept and far from holiday 'snaps'.

These are on a few news sites today,but Im not convinced of their authenticity.Aside from awful HDR I suspect green screen,most obvious is Berlin picture,the composition doesnt work.

The Berlin one is actually easy to 'authenticate' if such a step is actually needed. The lady in question is a Russian journalist called NATALIA ZAKHAROVA, and you can see her in Berlin on YouTube (skip to 3:50 or so).
 
She's got a great bum, not a bad view from behind haha
 
That's the only sort of HDR I like - Hardly Dressed Russian!

I didnt literally mean "holiday snaps".i thought that was obvious. So are they genuine or not? HDR aside the depth of field/angle of view looks off.
 
processing horrid on some and it became boring after the first couple of shots.

No, it wasn't obvious.

I suppose the only way to see if they're genuine is to have been there, but I'll take the photographer's word on this and believe in genuine effort on his part.

Well considering I can tell difference between snaps and artistic photographs ,posting on a photography forum Id say it was.
But I digress.Awful photos,processed to death.

I bow to your obvious expertise, seeing as you can tell the difference between some photographs. Your sweeping statements about processing are enlightening, really informative....

So what is the difference between an artistic photograph and a snap then?
 
I wonder would it have the same effect if they were both 20-odd stone, milk bottle white with sun blisters? :D

And there you have it. Artistic.

One of the things in life that is truly rooted in the eyes and mind of the person viewing. Your opinion of artistic is very different to someone elses. But to dismiss the shots as mere snaps is really rather simplistic.

There is clearly plenty of thought gone into the idea, and the series. These shots are obviously planned and not a simple snap of a moment.

Ponder the process used to create the shot, and the decisions behind the crazy processing, and you might see things differently. You might not, but it never hurts to ponder rather than be completely dismissive.

That's not a difference in the image, its just terminology. Give us a real difference?

I don't think you started this thread to do anything other than slag off someone's work....

You seem to rather delight in deriding other photographer's work. Well here's a reference point for you:

Personally I reckon that it's a rather well done project. There's nothing 'holiday snappish' about the photos in the slightest.

Yes there is. In the sense it's the tourist view point that you see in every single holiday makers snapshots. People don't always mean low quality bad angled thoughtless photo when they say snapshot :D

Eh!

We can discuss art till the cows come home but snapshot ought to be easy to categorise. Surely a snapshot is something that's had no thought put into the execution beyond lifting the camera to record whats in front of you.
 
Pains me to say, but I agree with Phil here :D ;)

These are no snap shots. I would say it's art, I guess. There is a definitive concept, there's a story behind it, reasoning, and the ott processing seems intentional for dramatic effect - IMO mind.

In saying that, it doesn't do much for me personally.

What he said. Personally I thought they were over processed and a waste of a really good concept.
 
I like the concept but they do look staged to me - the 'soldiers' in the Berlin shot look fresh from a fancy dress shop and the Russian looks like he borrowed someone else's jacket, and slept in it. It looks to me like a studio shot of the girl, the arm and the two 'soldiers' placed over a background. :shrug:

Edit: Looking at other pictures of the square, I see the 'soldiers' could be re-enactors which seem quite popular there. That would explain the fancy dress look but I don't know, something still doesn't look quite right to me. Why are they looking past her into the camera. Would you? :D Also, the back of the girl's jacket looks to be in shadow despite facing the same direction as the front of the Russian's coat which is not in shadow. Could it be a straight shot of the re-enactors in the square, with the girl and fella's arm placed on top afterwards?
