Hi peeps,

Hubby has now put me in charge of finding a Holiday cottage in the Lake District but I have no idea where to start. I have no idea where about in the Lakes is the better or worse areas I know nothing about the lakes.

We don't want to spend a bomb. I have been looking and some of them are very expensive. Any tips or ideas gratefully received. :D

Thank you

Terri

I spent a nice week at Troutbeck Lodge at Limefitt couple of years ago, it is a very clean lodge and all mod cons. Price was reasonable. If you are with a car then all the usual haunts are very near, about 5 mins drive to Windermere or Amblside. If you like to eat out I can recommend the Queen's Head just a few mins drive from the lodge, meals were delicious.

That's a nice park... well-looked after and the owner of that particular lodge (John) is a good guy who will look after you well. He also has a few other lodges (I think 4 in total now). Troutbeck is also a lovely valley and full of great photo opportunities.

There are various agencies here such as Cumbrian Cottages, Lakelovers, Heart of the Lakes, etc. which will all have a good selection of properties, catering for a wide range of budgets and needs.

You'll also find a good selection here: http://www.ukcottage.com/cumbria+lake-district

We also have lovely riverside accommodation on the edge of the Lakes ourselves but I fear from your post that it might be deemed a bit pricey for your needs. I'll refrain from posting a link but, if you wanted to check it out, you'll find it by searching for my username.

I've stayed at Graythwaite many times and absolutely love it there. Not your cheapest option but it is very nice!
