Going on hollybobs to Turkey in a few months, so need to buy some travel/holiday insurance for 2 adults and 2 sproglets.

Any suggestions? Things to look out for? Clauses to avoid etc?
Never bought it before (or indeed been on holiday as an adult) so it's all new to me...

Whatever you do make sure that you DO GET SOME.

Have just contracted gastro-enteritis on the morning we were due to fly home, I'm thankful that we were covered.

We use Fortis Insurance Ltd under the Alliance and Leicester Premier 50 account. They were excellent.

I'm not sure it applies to Turkey yet, but also make sure you get your EHIC (card) for reciprocal treatment.

i have renewed with club direct for the last few years. mine just cost me £38 for a family of 4 for 12 months european cover. not bad if i say so myself.

nothing on insurance but If your going to Turkey remember you need to hand the turkish authorities/security an english £10 note at the airport when you arrive for each person in your party :bat: no matter what age they are, baby or not.. its a disgrace but a fact.. you wont get in otherwise

Is that for real, why would you have to do that:shrug:

I have a barclays additions bank account, it's £16 a month but includes full annual travel insurance, full RAC cover, domestic emergency insurance and loads more, most banks offer something similar, i'm sure buying them all separately would be more expensive.

no joke man!! was there last year and as you get in at passport control you pay your dosh :( they must make millions out of it

i use direct travel and went to turkey twice last year
two week cover for five of us was 32-50p premier plus policy
it is a must have with kids as i have used my insurance almost every year for ear infections etc
this year for some strange reason i managed to collapse and spent a night in hospital on a couple of drips
direct tavel settled the bill before i left the hospital which they have to do in turkey or you do not get released
i would not have wanted to pay that bill two of us for the night ambulance trip as well
next day i paraglided off of a mountain
where are you going in turkey we have booked it again for this year

Thanks everyone. Terri thats the sort of experience I was hoping someone would post.

Will take a look through the links now.

I've already been told about the £10 visa fee by a neighbour and another friend....and that it must be in the form of a £10 each...not a £20 as they'll assume its a tip :p

Wow Turkey must have really changed! I went there in 2002ish and kept all my £10 to myself! Tis an awesome Country - stunning scenery. Went to a place called Fethiye if I recall.

Good call on the insurance - money well spent even if you never in your life use it IMO.

Marcel - Did you get an email from a certain 'Heppers' tonight?

what part you going to
we have been to icmiler, fethiye and olu dinez so far

terry - did you stay at the hillside beach club in fethiye?

Most awesome holiday I have ever had!

Crap, just realised I have a couple of medical conditions, that while they don't cause problems....I'm gonna have to declare em.

Time to start ringing round!

Marcel, surely being hunglikeadonkey wont affect your premium??

Axa are usually pretty good or your travel agent can usually just add insurance onto your booking. Also you will have to fill in your API, this can be done online depending on who you are travelling with, not sure if you can do this at the check-in desk now.

Link

A lot of countries are joining it now, so they can keep track of who is coming and going. Almost positive Turkey is part of it.

Thanks ladies and gents. Just gave Direct Travel a call explaining my medical conditions (and my wife's) and it came to 56.69 for the four of us for their premier plus policy. Reading reports of people claiming before leaves me happy I'm now covered.
They did ask if I wanted to remove the excess for £12 per person and £6 per child, but that's an extra £36 ontop of the policy, so I decided not to.

So, that's insurance done......errr, don't think there's anything else left to do now :D

Thanks for the API information Vic, I'll do that when everyone's passports have arrived. I also plan to register the travel with LOCATE from the FCO, just waiting on passport numbers.

just some suncream and sit back and wait for your first effes
you can get some cracking sunset photos done in turkey
we had 10 printed for us and the cd with 150 pictures on for about 150-00

I have one from when I went to Amsterdam a couple of years ago, the rest of my family don't.

However, Turkey don't participate in it :(
