I have a budget of £1500 for a holiday, a week or so free in October, no idea and I'm travelling alone.

I'm not very good at holidays, I don't speak any foreign languages and I'm not really fussed about food (picky eater so nice and simple). I don't like sitting round to much and I don't want to end up just sitting in a bar for a week. I do like to socialise and mix with other people. Obviously I'm interested in photographic opportunities.

I really would like to broaden myself and get some holiday experience, who knows, it could be fun.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you need somewhere full of British people, like the armpit that is Benidorm.

Lake district?

Go on an accompanied tour. I've done a few of them and they've always had singletons included. Usually you travel in groups of 12-16 and get the services of a full time guide so language isn't an issue. You're on the move for a lot of the time so no need to be bored and plenty of photo opportunities. £1500 will get you a fairly big choice, even somewhere like the Far East might be possible, certainly North Africa and Europe is doable. I used a company called Explore but there's plenty of others around.

What about an italian city tour? Starting with rome for 3 nights... florence, naples, etc etc?

as above or singapore saw flights for £580 the other day and a great place to visit and they do have all the fast food places you get over here.

Find a local scuba club and go learn to dive - a totally different life experience with plenty of socialising, if you're lucky somewhere nice and hot too!
Don't take the camera down with you :D

I'd be going up to the Cairngorms if I was in your position. It matches most of your criteria - definitely plenty to do and plenty of photographic opportunities. I believe some parts have even had snow this past week (on the tops anyway).

+1 Singapore. Going over there in October too. £1500 would probably get you economy flights and possibly 4* accommodation.

I see you like landscape style stuff to check out this guy to get your appetite going. Some of the stuff on there is ridiculously good. http://www.flickr.com/photos/night86mare

You've got epic cityscapes, to quiet mangrove / forested islands + wildlife all within an hour square.

looking at those pictures makes me want to go back now...
