Yes
I'm off on my holidays soon and have just found out the holiday insurance wont cover my camera and gear.

Anyone got any recommendations for companies that do this sort of thing?

You beat me to it I was going to post a request for advice on good holiday camera insurance.

Off back to the Mara end of October

It's a scary thought taking all that equipment knowing it's not insured, especially with the level of security at African airports

Does anyone have any experience with E&L insurance ??

Check your house insurance policy, my camera wasn't covered on ours without the personal belongings cover, rang them to see how much it would be to personal belongings cover and they added it free! Result, covers it for loss or damage while abroad

Already been down the house insurance route and my present insurers won't cover it once it leaves the country:thumbsdown:

Yes and NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Just don't go there Notch. Anywhere but there. Their fine print can be 'flexible' apparently. :rules:

(And lucky B&gg@r. No trips till Toto gets better. :()

can you elaborate on this? i will looking at E&L

I'm insured with E&L...
I was recomended to them by another forum.

They cover me, for what i need cover for.

They aren't very clear in their fine print either. They DO insure second hand equipment, but ONLY for the value you paid (plus deprication). So if you paid £200 for a lens, and it's £350 new... And it got stolen a week later. They would give you £200 to get yourself another second one... if that makes sense (and I think that is right).

Their standard policy covers you for up to 30 days worldwide... over the phone they told me it didn't. So paid an extra £30. When the fine print came through, it said it does... so they refunded £30.

It's cheaper to pay up front. And then it will last the rest of the year when you're home (incase it gets lost, stolen or damaged etc).

They are cheaper than most other insurance companies, but i'd ask questions that you have doubts on!

Read these comments here about them for a start.

Oh and download the latest terms and conditions as well. I was reading the theft from vehicle T&Cs and even to me there is far too much wriggle room for them to not pay up. :suspect:

Oh, and don't forget to tell them you are going abroad before you go.. In writing.. And get a confirmation receipt for it.

Barge and pole IMHO.... :nono:

ah very interesting, amazing companies like this are so well spread and known

Toto_Returns who hangs around here is a country girl and had some anecdotal evidence as to why Equine & Livestock should be avoided.

She knew several people who had 'problems' with claims on their horse insurance for instance. :suspect:

I'm just trying to sort out insurance also, albeit on a tight time scale as its one of those things "I must get around to", in trying to work out the level of cover I need I've added up all my kit up I cant believe how much I've spent

So far its a toss-up between Glover & Howe and Photoguard, I think given my time limits it will be photguard as you can apply online, they also seem to get favourable reviews on this forum.
