Holga, Toy, Charity Shop, Car Boot and other Bargains (film only please)

£20 for a Agfa synchro box! I nearly choaked even if it was mint. Passed on another for £4 becuase it looked like it was jammed on time mode.

If they 'passed' they likely didn't reach their reserve.
Those sort of lots mainly sell to dealers. You really need to attend the auctions or on viewing days to examine the lots as they are sold 'as is' and condition reports are not usually provided for job lots. Also be fully aware of the buyer's commission (usually 15 to 25% plus VAT on the premium). If you are bidding by internet and can't collect your purchases the shipping costs can be very high.
If there's an auction house in your area then it's well worth checking out their general, collector's and vintage sales.

Those auctioneers in manchester won't pack up anything so it'll be pick up only unless you want to use some random they recommend for doing that.

I keep looking on that site. Its a bad idea!

The 330 TLR estimated at the same sold for £90 and it wasn't great looking.

That place is only a mile or so up the road from me, shame my bank account is looking pretty bleak at the moment...

If someone buys it from here you have just accidentally volunteered your services as camera mule ;)

They'd best be quick, I'm moving out of Manchester in 6 days :P

I've been given a cosmic symbol, the serial number seems to indicate it's a 1974 vintage. I've had a film through it today, not holding much hope but I enjoyed using the little thing. I'll dev it tomorrow and see what's what. ☺

Is this the missing symbol? ;)

EDIT: maybe it was the lost symbol? Colour me confused!

That Rolleiflex went for £380

There was also an autocord which went for £45... should have bidded on that. Arse!

Mamiya foldy thing went for £55.

The Rolleiflex was still a bargain, even with a complete service it's about half what I've seen them advertised for by dealers.

It's roughly what I thought it would go for. Auction costs are about another 20% on top.

Just a tip; if you are tempted to bid on anything at auctions I really recommend you examine the item yourself or contact the auction house for a full condition report. Faults are rarely listed (the cameras are rarely tested actually) and it's the buyers responsibility to satisfy themselves of the condition.
They're pretty much sold 'as seen' and there's no return if you end up buying a broken camera.

I think the Rollei would be around £450 after auction costs. Either a decent bargain for a collector or a good profit for a dealer!

For some stuff auctioneers include a condition report. I think that tends to be more common for the good stuff. For serious buying I'd get one but I've most been looking and considered the odd punt on something under £50 which isn't a massive amount to lose to have a decorative doorstop ;)

Mamiya C330 etc up today has a condition report in the description:

Looks a really good one and with original boxes too.

Adam Partridge:

Mamiya TLRs went for £110. Absolute bargain for someone.

Leica ii £150

Super Ikontas were £50 & £55
Ikons were £20 & £30

Reeman Dansie:

Bronica ETRS £120
Rollieflex T £160
Hasselblad 500C £270
Canon Rangefinders £80 & £85

Most of the stuff I see go through seems a good deal to me, often less than Fleabay prices.

I've just been watching this and they seem to be much cheaper than e-bay but the delivery charges are pretty steep... £31... However, I've signed up and I shall keep a weather eye open for bargains.

It seems to work out cheaper to actually get a return train ticket, this is how silly the delivery prices are!

Don't take a credit card! I had a good trawl through the lots. There's a box full of what look like brand new minolta AF dynaxssssss. (dynaxi??) I could also have a serious TLR binge as well ;)

Dynasties...???

Anyway I'm not interested in any of this stuff..I'm not, I'm not, I'm not....

I think I know where and when the next film meet should be.

Best not look at this specialist photography auction... 25th September in Newbury. There is tons of stuff!

http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/special-auction-services/catalogue-id-2914212

Unfortunately I'm not allowed to view the link at work, probably for the best as I'd get nothing else done before leaving tonight! I'm not far from Newbury and the only meeting in my calendar for the 25th is a teleconference so I wonder whether I might "work from home" that day ...

So much stuff! How does this actually work? Do you sign up, and then bid electronically? Intrigued...

Yes. You sign up to the saleroom account, then for each auction you also register to bid. A lot of them are streamed live so you can either watch live or watch and bid live. If you go via the saleroom site I think they add a small payment premium on the hammer price + the normal auction house fees. But for aggregated searching for things across multiple auction houses it is worth it. You need to check the terms of each auction as different auction houses charge different premiums and vary in whether they will pack up your lots and send them or want pick up or want some particular third party to pack and collect and send on. The saleroom also offer a packing and delivery service for some auctions but it seems quite pricey.

Thanks Suz - there's a couple of lots that have piqued my interest but, in truth, all just additional things that I don't really need :(

I don't really need a lot of things but sometimes it is nice to have one or two of them anyway ;)

As long as what you have is used regularly it is ok.... that's my excuse anyway :D
