Holding Lightstand

Usually have wife hold lightstand outside to stop it toppling over. Today she wanted some pictures of her new hairstyle. Couldn't find anything to weight down the stand at first but then came up with this idea

I often make use of the large or over-sized tent pegs etc., or even guide lines with tent pegs if I need a much wider base.

I have a climbing carribeana on top of my photo-backpack - clip it to the light stand and jobs a good-un. Or clip it under your tripod for steadiness on the longer exposures.

I work in cities a lot, where pegs are not an option, so I tend to brace the weight of my bags on bungee cords against the stand in the centre, which is not ideal, but when working solo, you have to compromise between weight you carry and stability.
