Looks like HMV will be joining jessops and comet soon, according to news reports.

With their need to get cash quick HMV are having a 25% off sale today only, both in store and online.

Hope they manage to keep the remaining HMV owned Fopp branches open

Im not surprised they are expensive and seem to be selling allsorts these days, Cds cost so much more and people will shop online for much better deals. Its a shame been a customer since the 60`s but rarely buy anything unless its on offer.

Get your vouchers spent quickly, folks!

Heather

Way to expensive I went in there for a box set of dvds and left to buy online were it was nearly £35 cheaper
They dig there own holes
(Yes I know online doesnt help)

Reports on Twitter are that Administrators could be appointed tomorrow.

As many as 4,000 jobs could go! :(

They've appointed Deloitte. Vouchers already refused in some stores.

Not a surprise since tesco started selling CDs all those years ago.

Im after an ipad 4. And the 64GB would only cost £420 which is superb! But if they call in the administrators then what would happen if I ordered?

Just did a quick comparison
Far cry 3 ps3
Hmv = 39.99
Tesco = 24.99

Were would you rather go?

The 25% off is only for marked stock so the ipad isn't included. And even if it was, there's a good chance if you ordered it tonight and they called in the administrators tomorrow that you wouldn't see your ipad, and you'd have to claim off your credit card to get your money back.

just read t &Cs and cant buy apple products on 25% off anyway!

Comparing to google searches there prices are stupidly high from small amount to £20 plus on dvd box sets
I dont think anyone would buy when they get cheaper else were even tesco

It is a shame, but the writing had been on the wall for some time... I am amazed hmv have clung onto life for so long..,not only are the prices usually pretty steep the whole experience in store is awful, a dark dingy illogical mess- I found myself avoiding hmv at all costs.

I hope they keep going they are the only retailer with a world cinema section but they are more expensive
One film I was looking at was 9.99 for a DVD and amazon had the same one on blue ray for 6 quid
I still buy CDs from them as I like to browse:)

i love HMV. Never bought movies online..... love DVDs for the home cinema.

Over 3o big High street names went tits up over the last 18months. They reckon another 14 high street names are near going pear shaped.

Everywhere will look like a ghost town with Naff Mobile phone shops and charity shops everywhere.

Sad times....

Cant wait to get some pound shop (not) bargains
When the high streets are empty
Maybe banks will just go online as well because nobody will be in the streets to go to them

Next were in bother a while ago. I wonder if they'll be another? Homebase is often crap so id wonder about them too.

According to the BBC . . .

Music and DVD chain HMV, which employs about 4,350 staff, has confirmed it will appoint an administrator, making it the latest High Street casualty.

Deloitte will run the 239-store chain while it assesses prospects for the business and seeks potential buyers.

Trading in HMV shares on the London Stock Exchange is being suspended, the company said in a statement.

Anyone know what the deal is with international stores? BBC only mentions UK and Ireland. We have a few stores here in HK and they are the only place you can get a decent selection of international music, be gutted if they close.

Supermarkets are taking over the world, village butchers and grocers gone now the high street

so they are still trading for now yet good folks vouchers will not be accepted :nono:

I have no vouchers so I am not angry in any way RE that it.. I just feel sorry for people that have.. at the end of the day HMV are holding stock already paid for by the public yet they will not release it..

pretty much standard practice for business in administration.

That's not quite right, you bought a voucher and you were given a voucher. Pedantic maybe, but you have been given what you paid for, the fact that what you paid for is now worthless can be upsetting.

Holders of vouchers have essentially become creditors as soon as the administrators have been appointed - and will be treated like any other creditor.

According to someone in the know, Mother Care will shortly be following.

be very surprised to see that heppening

Parents like to walk around mothercare and see and feel the products, also we have lots of questions where the staff can advise.

prams, car seats all need to be seen and tried in the store.

Doubt it, UBS added to an already large shareholding last month.

I'm amazed they've lasted this long. It's got to be 10+ years since I actually bought anything from HMV and probably at least 6 years since I even stepped foot inside one. My outstanding memory was just how expensive they were compared to the likes of Amazon and Play.

We followed the Jessops model with all our large baby items. Looked at them in various stores and ended up buying online. (hangs head in shame)

Mothercare would be a shame but they can be overpriced. We don't often buy anything from there. It's the same with Early Learning Centre, they can be very overpriced for what you're buying.

Can't say i've heard and recent rumours, not since they closed a lot of shops either last year or the year before.

apart from new releases i dont get the while price thing, hundreds of blu rays are 6 quid each, dvd's 3 quid, cd's a few quid. All the same or better than online, how much cheaper do you want to go? sure the new releases of cd's and blu's were stupid prices but how long do they stay at that level. They all end up knocked down within a couple of months.
