Hmmm now Aperture 3 for £44.99 or Lighrtoom for £213!

Maybe it's just the upgrade version, I'll bre damn annoyed if lightroom drops down to that price soon, I just bought the program 3 weeks ago. :(

Nope, its the full Aperture 3 . .
Wont be this price for long though I wouldnt have thought.

I looked at Aperture 3 in the Apple stre in the Trafford Centre two days go and the upgrade version was around £44 so are you absolutely positively certain it was the FULL version?!

I would have thought so, otherwise the requirements would say that you need a previous version of aperture.

I haven't looked at it, but is it possible that the App Store bases the price it's showing you on what software you already have installed? (So it's showing the upgrade price because you already have v2?)

No, i'm at work and dont have any version of Aperture installed on this machine.

Its the full version . . .

iphoto 11 is also only £11.99 for the full version..
So you can buy it without having to buy the whole Ilife 11 suite.

Apple stores are selling it for £173 with upgrades for around the £70, somethings not right somewhere.

So is it worth ditching elements 9 for this? Very tempted by the price!

Aperture/Lightroom and Photoshop/Elements play different roles.

The former are aimed at image management and quick workflow.
The latter are better suited to more detailed, pixel level work.

They complement each other very well - it's probably a case of adding Aperture to Elements rather than replacing it.

This is in the new Mac app store that you have to download on your Mac.

Run software update and it will download the latest version of osx which includes a program calked the Mac app store. In there it's £44.99

ALSO... you'll legally be allowed to use it on up to 5 Macs that are linked with your apple id.

Yes only via the new App Store. If you can borrow a student you can get the full version of Lightroom 3 for £78.

There you go, proof that its not just the upgrade...

I highly doubt it'll stay at this price for long. Mac app store opened today, so pheraps an introductory offer

What a bummer! Just bought my iMac two days ago, bought LR3 yesterday and now the iMac won't connect to t'internet. Bloody airport failed message every time!

Bah humbug!

I just bought Aperture 3 from the US (for £80, much cheaper than the UK retail price but much more than the new App Store price). Hasn't even arrived yet! I knew the App Store was coming and thought about holding off, but decided that there was no way it would be less than half the boxed price...

Might try to eBay it when it arrives :o)

Am I right in thinking that aperture doesn't have lasso tools and that sort of thong?

I can confirm the £44 price point. Bought and installed. Even if you do no editing in aperture itself you can easily integrate photoshop into your workflow by setting it up as an external editor and using shift-option-0 to quickly edit and go back into aperture after saving.

I have a Magic Trackpad and using gestures and aperture together is a dream!

I think I was put off buying it due to the much larger price tag (and having already spent a bit on LR3) but any tog with a fairly recent mac would be silly not to purchase this at this price, even just for the painless management of your library and places (geotagging) if your bit of a traveller like me.

Biggest difference for me is the tethered shooting in LR3 which is brilliant. I bought Aperture 1.5 but dumped it to switch to LR

You can do that in A3 too. You can also tell it to apply preset adjustments as the photo is taken.

Well I have 8000+ pics all tagged in lr3 now so it's too late.

Arr well, I'm downloading the trial to have a look. Not likely to switch but its worth a look to see whats changed.

Or Apple have realised that at £45 they will SELL lots of copies, instead of Adobe idea of price at £200 and people will PIRATE lots of copies :)

I think that you have hit the nail on the head. Look how many people today on here have suddenly decided to give it a go. I am hoping that I can use Aperture with a library stored on my server without using the work around that I devised.

LR does not store it's file changes in the actual file so I am not sure just how I can transfer everything from LR to Aperture.......

Saw this earlier and was a bit put out having bought A2 origianlly and then paid for the upgrade to A3 last year. Might be time to start bugging apple for a goodwill gesture (like they did when they dropped the price of the original iPhone a few years ago ;))

What's the bet Aperture 4 is just round the corner?

Unlikely, 3 is less than a year old, and there were years between the release of 2 & 3.

I'm more relieved I didn't fork out £45 for iLife '10 just to upgrade my version of iPhoto since that now appears for £9 in the App Store!!

Full Lightroom 3 as a student is £65.76

The upgrade is £76.25

Got an old copy or know any students?

Not having a smart phone, I've never been an app store user, but I can now see Apple have a great system in place .

They have no packaging to sort out, no disc, no box, nothing.
You can't easily pirate the software as it installs straight on to you computer, no disk image.

No wonder they can sell them really really cheap. Well done to Apple on this idea.

Now you can download from Adobe, for the same price as getting a full retail box with disc and manuals :(

I downloaded the trial a few days ago and was in two minds at the old price. Not any more!

According to the App Store license you can only use the software on a non-commercial basis. Maybe that explains the huge price drop.

I could not see that in the Aperture 3.1.1 License Agreement on the App store

Could you let us know which paragraph it's in just in case I missed it.

Students can get LR for £60 AFAIK

But not everyone is a student. Very good if you are though.

I read it in the question and answer section at the bottom of the Aperture page in the Apple online store.
