Next thing I recived is a message from eBay saying item had been paid for " full price " but by echeque which I know nothing off so I read up on it.

be delivered on or before 24 April 2010 then will have to ask
you to cancel the purchase and make the refund as I'm going

Now is it just me or do the want the camera to go abroad before the echeque will/ would clear ..?

I just found it all very strange.....

I would open a dispute just to start with and wait till the echeque clears. You do not need to send it till it has cleared and I certainly wouldn't! It is HIS fault that the delay occurred so he can hardly complain about it.

Scam, simple as.

Had this when I sold my 350D years ago. I got a fake, but very very convincing paypal email saying I had funds, and that they would only be released when I enter tracking number.

If it is genuine, then wait for the funds to be safely in your posession!

Good luck

I've never sold anything of EBAY yet is it possible to contact ebay and tell them your having issues with the buyer and put it back up for sale and give this buyer negative feedback.

I would contact eBay and ask for their advice - the buyer is definitely messing you around (intentionally or otherwise). I'd also check with PayPal re the e-cheque - an annoying development - which sometimes the buyer is forced into depending on their account status and whether they have a Paypal balance. I think the money leaves their account immediately and PayPal takes its sweet time to send it over.

Phil

I feel for you.
The way some buyers behave on ebay these days is appalling (as in a previous thread I saw on here) because they know they can get away with it. I have been a seller for 10 years on ebay and this is getting more and more common as ebay changes the rules continuously to suit the buyer, often unfairly.
I don`t know what you can do about this numpty really, it may be better to try and get the deal cancelled. :(:(

A buyer cannot give a seller negative feedback :(

Sounds incredibly dodgy to me. I think you've been incredibly patient and more than fair!

Forget it. His cheque will never clear. JOKER. Send him another message telling him where to get off. Con artist mug is trying to rip you off. Also get Ebay to bounce him.

How comes your selling it on ebay and not on here?? :bat::bat:

 :D

Fair enough :)

I want it though!! Just cant afford it :'(

I'd tell him that he has entered into a binding contract of sale, and that you are not willing to cancel the same, and that you will only post the item once his funds have cleared.

I would also copy all the correspondence to ebay such that they are aware of the difficulties you are having with him, in the event that he attempts to raise a dispute.

Reminds me of something I had happen a few years ago.

Was desperate to get hold of the newly launched Nikon D70. Saw one on Ebay. Seller said he was off to Italy on a business trip and could I wire the money as he was short of funds! His daughter would then send the camera off to me complete with tracking number etc.

Smelling a rat I told him to get lost as I don't do business like that. Haven't used Ebay since.

I know it's a Canon but surely M8 you could have sold it on here to one of us?!! I think we'll have to ask Marcel to speak to Mrs MD to use her rolling pin to remind you of the error of your ways!

Sounds like a chancer but ebay have rules and as long as you wait till the echeque clears and you send it he has no leg to stand on.

If he wants to cancel, even after your emails then he should raise the issue with ebay, I suggest you raise yours with ebay first and wait to see what happens with the money.

Oh and I only ever believe emails from banks/paypal when I have logged in seperately and confirmed the message in the private inbox of my bank/paypal website.

Nick.

The most valuable piece of infomation that so many people fail to forget in todays world

refund him IF it ever clears,I certainly would not send it.

refund him IF it ever clears,I certainly would not send it.

It is possible to create a scam involving refunds too. If you are really not happy DO NOT JUST REFUND. Open a claim and speak to Paypal to REVERSE THE PAYMENT otherwise you could refund him and then find that the payment came from a stolen card or similar and find that they take that off you too making you doubly out of pocket.

I have had this happen to me, E-Cheque cleared, I posted and they claimed non receipt.

As it was an E-Cheque the address was not verified and paypal refunded, as even though I had proof I sent it, it was to an unconfirmed address.

Leaving me out of money and with no lens (was expensive but not the point).

IMVHO if I was you I would wait till the echeque clears and then refund it straight away and also claim you final value fee back saying they want it posted to a country you dont post to.

Paddy

Scam!!! just wait, you doing everything you should ! don't be surprised if you have to re-list ,

Don't send the camera until it doesn't clear it has scam written all over it.

The echeque probably doesn't exist and the email is sent from elsewhere not paypal. Result in this is you post the camera as he is in a rush out of the goodness of your heart and never received the cash.

He is asking you to do a refund and cancel the sale. Result is you send the cash he hasn't paid you yet and you keep the camera, no cash arrives due to fake echeque but you have sent him £555 of your own money as a refund so you loose out.

If the cash arrives then great but only check this via your paypal account logging in to the paypal website and type the address to paypal in to your browser address bar don't go clicking on any links that are on emails the "buyer" may have sent you probably links to a fake paypal site and you log in and hand over the details of your paypal account in the process.

So be very wary of what is happening scammers don't just come from Nigeria now. The signs of a scam like this are echeque, email saying they have sent payment and want you to rush the sending out, the deadline they need to send the item away and the request of you sending a refund rather than them initiating it.

If you do anything always type website addresses in to your browser or search via google or site you trust don't click any links on emails as the emails may and probably are fake.

I've just sold something on ebay.

It was on less than 10 minutes before someone with no feedback bought it. I received an email 5 mins later saying...

Hi mate,
I'm glad to have bought the item you advertised on eBay..I actually wanna buy the item as a gift for my boyfriend..Am not in the UK at the moment as i'm in Asia on an official assignment.so,I'd like you to do me the favour of posting the item directly to my boyfriend..Pls i'd like you to get back to me asap with the item's condition. Is it as described??I'll be paying for the item via paypal as soon as i read from you...
Regards..

Needless to say I replied and let him know I expect payment within 7 days and will only post to the address linked with paypal for both parties protection. I haven't heard anything back yet and no payment made and don't expect to.

Its really annoying all these time wasters.. I just want to sell and receive money LoL

Absolutely, it delays your selling of the item. It can lose you a high bid if you have to re-list. etc At least you can get the final auction fee refunded.

MD

I would be sticking to the deal as you are and waiting for the notes to hit the account...

Failing that go for the meet in person for collection and cash and smack him in the mouth for waisting your time... huge satisfaction gained ..... will take all the rage out of the transaction.

Nigel

I've just been back on and opened a dispute.. he's asking me to send the item to an unconfirmed address :)

It means that he now has 7 days to either.. pay or cancel
If he does neither then I get refund and can re-list.

It saves time because I don't need to wait til he doesn't pay to open a dispute.

How do you do this please .. " open a dispute"

As DiddyDave says, you will probably find the payment will clear in your bank, you send the goods, three months later the payment is rejected, leaving you out of pocket and, minus one camera.
At that stage there will be nothing you can do about it.

Paypal echeque is the dodgiest form of payment paypal do. ( And that's saying something )

Basically it takes 7-10 days for it to be confirmed in your paypal account, but even then you do not have access to the funds. When linked to an ebay sale you only get the money on positive feedback from the buyer. So the buyer can give you negative feedback after they get the goods and you're stuck with no money and no item...

I accepted one for my sigma lens ( £1500 worth ) and was so worried I was being scammed. I wasn't in the end but I wont accept an echeque ever again.

Pete

scam written all over it contact ebay straight away showing all your emails.

My father and i have been selling on ebay for years now and i would be laughing at that.

Always the same on high end electrical gear.

I don't accept paypal mainly because it costs me so either send cash or do a bank transfer. I have a account with no money it specifically for bank transfers so I don't mind giving out my details. its also not with the same bank I actually use either.
