Would anyone have any experience with one these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220471257833&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

This one is priced really well.

Are there any problems to be aware of?

I am looking for one since my set up with 70-200mm f/4 L felt very unstable yesterday at the seaside. The wind was very high and it was swinging all over place. I had better luck shooting handheld. I suppose the ring would reduce the issue.

I don't know if it is the same product but the one I used has high grip material on the inside of the ring, rather than the teflon of the Canon one. This means that you can't really twist the lens from portait to landscape without removing it and re-inserting it. If that's not an issue, then it should be fine.

I bought one for my 100mm f/2.8 Macro, I havent used an original on it so cant really do a comparison but it does the job. It's felt lined on the inside to protect the lens and apart from a little difficulty getting the collar screw to align properly, I'd say it was well worth the money.

Just arrived!

It has felt inside and allows full rotation of the lens. It feels well built as well.

I must say this is a bargain, and will be getting one for my 100mm as well.

£5.43 mmmmmmmmmmmmm i have one on the way now that is a steal at that price i cnt belive it is that price inc delivery thank you for finding this out will also drop a line when it arrives

was after genuine but this will do for time being

That *is* a bargain actually.

I was looking at getting one for my 70-200 F4L too, a couple of years ago. They were priced at around £25 at the time (with the original Canon ones at something like £70).

I did advertise on here and got the proper Canon one for a bargainlicious £25, and Im realllllly pleased with it.

I did have the same worries though when toying with the idea of ordering on ebay. Would it fit properly, would it scratch my lens? Would it fall off if a midgie landed on the end?

Now I have one of theses too for my 100mm f/2.8 Macro , a nice black one for £8. Does it do the job, Yes but only just.

The lens is very slightly tapered and I have to tighten the collar VERY tight to keep it from slipping, but I also have the little Canon plastic adaptor ring that allows you to use the collar of a 70-200 f2.8, the plastic locks very nicely to the 100mm macro and has same location spigots as the 70-200 lens

The Canon solution is far better but far far too expensive for what it is £17 for a bit of plastic.

Now getting back to the OP, yes the ebay ones are fine and will do the job fine, and a felt or PTFE (Teflon) inside will make very little different in real world usage
