A big hello from Tyneside

I've been taking photos for over 20 years with various compacts. The first SLR I bought was a Pentax ME super. A City and Guilds photography course soon followed which I gained passes in Portraiture and Architecture. Over time I changed my camera and eventually treat myself to a Canon AF SLR and have stayed with that manufacturer ever since :canon:. I've been a member of a few forums (even ran one for 3 years before work got in the way) and a couple of camera clubs, so I already recognise a few names around here.

I started experimenting with Smoke Art while recovering from a knee operation on 2009. As I was pretty immobile for a few months I needed something to keep my photographic hobby going. I spotted an article on a website which brought smoke art to my attention and it quickly became apparent that it would be something I could try out easily enough in the house while recovering. First efforts were straight shots of smoke, but I soon progressed onto duplicating and removing smoke to bring emphasis to shapes, highlighting them even further with the use of colours.

Earlier this year I took over the chairman’s role at West Moor Camera Club :help:

Just had a look on your flickr Dave some nice images as you mention the smoke art shots are good  added you to my contacts

Cheers Dave, I'm enjoying the Smoke Art at the minute (seperate website for it at www.smokeart.co.uk) and just finished a local exhibition of it which went well.

Hi Dave

Good stuff with the exhibition, pleased it went well for you.

I see your using photobox,to sell images, how much commission do they charge, as Ive never heard of them, TIA

I'm using the Progallery (http://www.photoboxgallery.com/take-a-tour) part of Photobox which isn't bad at all actually. The costing is their price to print plus 10% of your actual price.

For example, they charge £1.27 for a 10" x 8" print, you sell it for £5.00 (you can either use a % mark-up or set individual prices). They take 10% of your price (50p) + the cost to print (£1.27) making their cut £1.77, you get £3.23. You still need to take VAT into account though.
