I'm really keen on moving up from my welding glass for long exposures and have read that the new Hitech Pro Stop ND filter is almost on par with the more expensive Lee 'Big Stopper'.

I'm a little confused on which one I actually need to get. There is a 85mm version and a 100mm version. Most of lenses take 77mm filter rings, so I am assuming the 85mm will be fine? I'm also unsure of the filter holder required, but I am happy getting a reasonably well made generic filter holder off ebay (Cokin?).

I'm also looking to add a 3 stop ND graduated filter to my lineup aswell and ideally use it with the 10 stop or in isolation.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

The Hitech 100s get better reviews than the Hitech 85s, in particular strong colour casts have been reported when stacking the ND 85s (several threads on TP about this).

thanks, i'll probably give formatt hitech a call

If most of your lenses are 77mm threads then I would get the 100mm grads. If you want to use more than 1 filter (10 stop and grad for example) you will probably get vignetting with the 85s

I got my Cokin Z Pro ND kit just before Xmas. It took 7 months (really!!) to arrive due to Cokin being taken over by Tokina but the wait was worth it.

I'm pleased I went for this kit as I can use filters from, not only Cokin, but Lee and Hitech as well.

The reviews of the new Hitech 10 stop are very positive. They have been manufactured in a new way which has improved them no end.

For me, the Hitech is a no brainer. It is substantially cheaper than the "Big Stoppa" and is now readily available.

Although I haven't done more than play with the Z Pro it seems to be a good buy. The holder is versatile and the soft grads I ordered are very well presented, each in its own, soft case and of a decent quality.

I also understand that most of the huge backlog of orders are just about complete, so kits should now be in stock.

I will do a full review of both the Z Pro kit and the Hitech 10 stop when I have had chance to use them in anger!

My hitech pro stop arrived the other day and it looks pretty well made. However, I found the Cokin z-pro holder to be pretty useless! Lens ring and the holder don't even form a full seal and allow light through. I'm gonna send the z-pro back for a refund and get a holder directly off Formatt Hitech.

I have read up extensively on this and I am going for the Hitech filter. Just need to work out which filter holder is most appropriate and then placing an order!
