I have the following...

EOS 5d MKI and the 24-105mm L series and the canon 20mm prime.

I want to get a set of ND grands as I really want to get more into landscape... I already have a polariser and a 10stop filter... But I know I need grads...

I think the Hitech system offers me a good value for money option as I have read good reports on them... Q1 Am I right on this?

Now with my 20mm prime... so I dont get vigentting (sp?)... Q2. Will I get away with the 85mm filters or am I best to stick to the 100mm wide system??? obviously these are more expensive... but i'd rather pay now than fight with dark corners!

All your help with these and other thoughts would be appreciated...

Mark

Anyone??? I was hopping to buy tommorrow but not happy to I know a bit more???

On the basis that the 5D mark I is full frame, then 20mm would be considered wide angle therefore I would say the 100mm is what you are after.
The 85mm filters on a 200mm FF will cause noticeable vignetting.

Furthermore the 100mm system can be used with any lens other than your wide/ultra wide lenses.
So it would be a long term investment anyway!

Hope this helps

100mm is the size you want, and not smaller. I have LEE Full ND Filters, but I also need a set of Grads. Let me know what you think of the HiTech filters if you get these. I would be interested to kno what they are like

I cant help you with regards to vignetting but i am in a similar situation and have a thread asking about Grads in this section so i thought i'd post this for you. Its a link to where ive justy bought my Hitech Grads from. I bought a Heliopan 10 Stop ND last week from here and cant fault them for service.

Hope this helps, Phil

Thanks guys... The 100mm it is then... Just noticed they do 100x150mm ones too... But not sure what benefit they would have... Im guessing they are for larger format cameras???

It's so you have some adjustment on where the graduated transition takes place, i.e. you don't always want it in the centre of the frame.

So going on the theory that in using the rule of thirds, 100x100 would be of no use? So does everyone buy 100x150 as the best option? Asking as I'm also looking at buying ND grads myself. I don't want to be making a costly mistake by buying 100x100
