Hi all.
I hope that this topic hasn't been covered too many times before but many times I have thought of hiring a bigger lens for those 'special' occasions but haven't due to concerns.
I'm talking about something like a 300mm 2.8 or even a 400mm for Motorsport events like Le Mans but (excluding the price of) have been worried about the T&C's of the hire of what they might do if there is any alleged damage on return.
Is there anything I should look out for specifically and any recommendations in companys

StewartR is a member on here and also owner of LensesForHire, the go to company if you want a lens.

Phone or drop him a line, I'm sure he will answer all your queries

Yeah, what Nigel said. LFH are the ones to use, excellent company.

Another vote for LFH have used then a few times, lens are in very good condition bearing in mind they are a hire company, comes excellently packed with all the return labels for sending back. As they say lenses always arrive the day before your hire starts and you send it back the next day after your hire ends. Can't fault them at all. Will be using them again in a few months.

I've just had a lens delivered from LFH (70-200 2.8) - It looks and feels brand new. Mint condition, extremely well packed. Mine was delivered to my billing address and I think I paid with verified by Visa, so wasn't required to pay any deposit.

I've also used LensPimp and LensLocker, both were good, well packaged and would deliver to a non-billing address with no deposit needed (for a Canon 85 1.8, might be for more expensive kit, or after LensLockers recent nightmare where a 5DIII and 70-200 2.8 IS got nicked) which was good for me, when I was a student living away from my billing address.

Ivevakways used Hireacamera. Fantastic service top quality kit and great value!

I've just used LfH through my insurance company and the only concern I had, and maybe StewartR could look into it, is that you don't get a receipt on collection so who's to know it has been collected (I know the courier scans the barcode sticker in but what if they pretended to do that - you wouldn't know and it would be your word theirs) or am I being too paranoid?

By the way, excellent service other than my concern above!

Yep another vote for LFH..recently used them and it was great service,no probs at all.

Also used LFH excellent service and a simple process and will definatley be using them again.

I've hired from LFH a few times now and I'd have absolutely no issues in recommending them.

I also like that you hire for x days, and they ship the day before and you ship it back the day after your hire ends so you get it for the entire x days (and some)

Thanks for everyone's experiences. Might give it a whirl!!

For what it's worth, I've used them 5 or 6 times now, definitely my number one place if I need to hire something. Veeeery tempted to get the 400mm f5.6 for a while as my next hire, see if it's worth buying one :p

I've currently got a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 vrII from LFH it arrived day before my hire period began and was very well wrapped.
Unfortunatly there is a down side to hiring expensive lenses, I now want one that I can call my own, this lens is bloody excellent :)
