Personally I think she's unfit for any position of power or indeed any position of public office.

I know that politicians en masse have a pretty ropey rep these days but even so maybe HC is in the Premier League when it comes to questionable suitability?

One thing that I've wondered about for years is the tendency for Americans to elevate the highly unsuitable to political rock superstar and even dynasty status whilst in the UK it doesn't tend to happen. As if we needed reminding, I'll offer just two examples, the Clinton's and the Kennedy's. Maybe we don't because we have the Royals?

What do you think?

Is HC suitable to be President of the most powerful nation on Earth or am I being too harsh and is she just par for the course?

Good point... the bad press over the years may just be rumour and lies.

It's just a view based on what I've read about her although the incident when she "Misspoke" a few years ago should be enough.

Can you think of a politician in high office (or low for that matter) who has never mis-spoken Or simply said something incredibly stupid?

So far, you've only shown she shouldn't be president because you dislike her and her husband.

She would get my vote if I had one, they were mad not to pick her over Obama last time - except that he won so who knows? I don't know why people (and BBC, Press) equate the "Clintons" to the Bushes and Kennedys since she is a Rodham not a Clinton.

One of the Bush lot will also be standing. In a country with a population of 320 millions you'd think that some candidates could be found outwith the group of usual suspects.

It's not so much that she misspoke but came out with a complete pack of lies.

I gave this as a little example but to be honest it's possibly the most flippant and if you look at the history of the Clintons both in and out of office you'll get a more balanced picture than I provided with that almost Monty Python image of HC crouching and running for an armoured car whilst little girls holding bunches of flowers and shocked dignitaries look on in stunned amazement.

Looking at the bigger picture do you think she's suitable to be president of the USA?

It's not that I don't "like" her and her husband... it's more that I feel a little baffled by the celebrity status some politicals achieve in the USA which seems to be absent from our culture in the UK. the Clintons are fated by many but they also polarise opinion and maybe she wont become president, looking at her record should she even be in the running?

The I find the rock star status of some American politicians and the creation of dynasties interesting and worrying and I do wonder about the suitability of (all?) The first is an observation and the second a question and nothing to do with me liking her. I like her as much as I like Miranda Hart, both make me laugh if for slightly different reasons and the thought of either of them being elected president of the USA phases me.

given that the republican option will probably by Jeb Bush and Sarah Palin, I'd prefer to see the democrats field a realistic candidate rather than a woman who's only famous because her husband decided to shag his intern (and got caught)

Ah, Sarah Palin. Now there's comedy potential.

I say again...show me a politician who hasn't.
I'll save you the trouble....you can't because such an animal does not exist.

I would say she's far more suitable than many.
And for those making banal statements about "only famous because of her husband...blah blah blah......
She's an accomplished Lawyer.
She's a former US Senator
Former Secretary of State (political appointment, not an elected one)
She's the first former First wife to go on to hold public office in her own right.

Show you a politician with a better record then HC? How many do you want?

You want just one... ok, I'll play but only if you'll express a view on some of the more serious question marks over HC.

My offering... Roy Hattersley.

Have you looked at her record?

Have you looked at her record?

I have.
But so far you haven't raised any serious question marks over HRC.
All you've done, frankly, is a bit of wittering about "rockstar politicians" and dynasties (which you can't even class the Clinton as being).
Oh, and a vague allusion to an incident which may have been a case of mis-speaking, or may actually have been a pack of lies.

If you've missed the news stories/reports you can Google. The reports and mud slinging and excuses and justifications are there to be read and you don't need me to hold your hand.

I assume we're all adults here.

My post was partly light hearted and observational but seem to have taken it a little too seriously. Personally I think she's unsuitable for any public office in a country so active in world events and there's no way I'd vote for her. You seem to think she made for the job so I'll bow to your greater knowledge.

There are currently 44 democrat US senators , many of whom are also from a legal background - also I woulnt say her law career was particularly accomplished - her biggest asset at Rose appears to have been the prestige she leant it due to who her husband was, and her ability to bring in clients (again due to her husbands office as arkansas govenor and connections)

I'll say again - she's only famous because of Bill , and more so Bills actions in the lewinsky affair - and of course her own dubious behavior during the white water affair and travel gate "no i have no idea where those papers are... oh look they are in my day book, who'd have thunk it " not to mention her more recent admission (during the 2008 ellection) to having lied about being under sniper fire in bosnia.

Righty-oh.
I'm certainly not about to go down the Petepedia thing over again.
Knock yourselves out.

Help us all if another member of the Bush family gets to wreak havoc on the planet and the English language.

Jeb isnt quite as much of a moron as George Junior, although that isnt saying a lot as ive encountered potatoes more astute than Goerge junior

I rather suspect the US is suffering the same problem as the UK - how to select the least worst candidate. But as for HC, she has form in breaking their own rules (like running her own personal mailserver, neatly circumventing the requirement that all email goes through administration servers & is saved for FOI/investigation later).

If the choice were between her and Sarah Palin it would be a tough one.

You have got to be kidding! That gun toting facist Palin?!!

Palin would probably start WW3 , Hilary would just be a complete joke ... so those are possibly the only circumstances in which i'd vote for her

( Imo the democrats will field Biden with Hillary as his VP)

She (Palin) might, but the democrats haven't been exactly backward in coming forward with warfare. I have very mixed feelings about this, especially after seeing Barak Obama fail to meet so many of the expectations that were reasonable before he started.

Biden appears to have a record of molesting the wives of famous people in public, though that could just be the usual media trash again. Not at all sure he'd be convincing as a presidential candidate compared to HC.

American politics have allways been pretty dire.
she is pretty awfull but Americans are drawn to money and power.

It's well known she's the presumptive nominee.

It's who the Republicans can come up with that'll be interesting.

Gun toting, war mongering, greenhouse gas burning…

Haven't been in here for a while...

I'm still stunned that anyone thinks H.C. is suitable for any public office or indeed any position of power or influence.

It's ok saying they're all as bad although I don't believe that they are, but saying that she's fit for office???? We're all going to hell in a hand cart...

Only 81 weeks to go. Anybody else as excited as I am?

I havent been more excited since i watched a coat of dulux drying on a wall ...
