what do you guys use infront of your hilite for people to stand on
looking for something better than the train it comes with.
is there any board or plastic alternative ?

What is the problem with the train? I'm not an expert here, but I'll sure I've read of people using things like a laminate floor pack underneath if it's an issue with getting crumpled.
 
Yes, those were the issues I'm sure I've heard others "fix" by using a pack of laminate underneath. Basically if the floor is soft then the train can be damaged / crumpled, but if you can make the floor solid underneath it it will be a lot better. So basically use it on a solid floor (no carpet), or make a solid floor under it. Just need a floor pack or two and it should be a lot better. I don't think the halite is great for full length. 3/4 and upwards they're fantastic, but for full length I'd look at other solutions
