If you do photography at night or in dangerous situations, maybe a high visibility reflective vest would be a good investment.

You can buy one from Ikea for £ 3.99. Useful if you're passing through with the missus on a tea-light or flat pack furniture buying spree...

I have one of those in my glove compartment for when Im delivering in the wee small hours.............very sexy!! :gag:

Never thought of it for dusk and dawn photo-taking... good idea. Scare the birds away a treat though!! :D

Or pick one up for free, there's usually half a dozen or so laying around on the bypass if your brave enough to stop and pick one up :D

Got a couple the other week from the local market for £3.50 for XXL so good to see I wasnt ripped off :)

I was on a first aid course last week .... the instructor informed us that very soon, it will be law to carry these in your car for ALL passengers and yourself. Apparently it is already a legal requirement in parts of Europe.

Can anyone enlighten me?

As it happens - I 'obtained' one courtesy of the highways agency in Halifax in my student days ;) Also got the yellow flashing roadworks light to match too!!!!

'tis already in Espana

Nice! I got the direction signs to go with it....although I think I left them behind with my student days.

We could have made a roadworks scene together :D

You can't beat traffic cones and roadworks collecting in your student days.

we used to get the flashing lights and also the red & white barriers for sledging on!!!

The best thing we ever obtained however, was after a particular drunken night at the Midland Hotel, Manchester. After blagging our way into the Princes Trust balland drinking with Bradley Walsh, Joanna Lumley & Stephen fry, we pinched the 2 bollards with the posh red rope that was used to organise the queue!!

I shall never forget the sight of me and the lads pegging it up Oxford Road carrying these with security in hot pursuit!!!

Happy days.

as regards the hi vis stuff - it does make very good sense. Anyone know where I can get PHOTOGRAPHER printed on the bag cheaply? I can imagine you could have a lot of fun at events by looking official ;)

When you say 'collecting', don't you mean stealing. This weekend on one of my jobs we had £1200 worth of cones 'collected' by people, which will have to be replaced at the council tax payers expense.

I read about a student in America who stole a STOP sign, he is now doing life for the manslaughter of a family of four! They ran into a crossing and was hit!
Also an old friend of mine ran into an unlit skip (students had nicked the lights) he sued the skip hire company for 8K.

I wear an Ikea hi-viz when I am on my bike, no lycra etc for me just jeans tshirt and the hi-vis on my Dawes Galaxy tourer :)

Ahhh just gave away the source of my username:)

There are places you can get Hi Vis Clothing custom produced and relatively cheaply too, but it would require a bulk buy (Marcel ???)

The Great British Tee Shirt Company seem like a cheap enough place with waistcoats available for £1.50, Hi Viz Fleeces for £12.50 and Hi Viz Bomber Jckets for £12.95. But the printing / embriodery is on top (but cheap <£3.00 if we get more than 25 items on Back Only - can be mixed)

Hacker had a link for these which you could also get printed. I've got it bookmarked on my dead laptop :(

I got a couple for mine & higher management's car in case of breakdown in the local pound shop.

Well said. Never been a student but you'd think people in further educatuion may have more sense. Beats me how every student thinks it funny to steal traffic signs and cones.

I'm glad I've only got a comprehensive education and a limited vocabulary:thumbs:

You would - but then it isnt just students - I work for the national trust and only last week I caught someone trying to unbolt one of our omega signs (the aluminium place name signs with an oakleaf) - we are used to them getting nicked with scrap , but this was a respectable looking 40ish guy in a beemer trying to unbolt one with aan adjustable (good luck with that - we spot weld the threads to stop people doing just that)

on being asked WTF he thought he was doing he said " I thought it'd look neat on my living room wall " :cuckoo:

I let him off with a bolocking because I couldnt be bothered with all the paperwork that would attend taking it further , but you have to wonder - these signs are about 80 quid each, plus our time to install them, so how does theft become okay just because he's on holiday ?

we also recently had some chucklehead glue up a bunch of padlocks (13 in total) with superglue - presumably "for a laugh" you can imagine how ammusing we found this jolly jape as we went round cropping them off and replacing them at the cost of £8 per lock

How much were they?

Yes it is compulsory to have them in the car in many European countries. Most new cars come with the jackets for free. :) Got two jackets for free next to first aid kit. :)

You would be surprised by how dumb some students can be. I feel very happy that I don't live in the part of town where students are. :)
