Yes
Hi all. I am about to buy a circular polariser to go on my Canon 100-400 L. The main use of this will be to reduce glare off cars during the summer while at motorsport events.

I will be buying a Hoya filter and just assumed that the Pro 1 would be the right choice. But I also see there is a low transparency versoin. Do I need this? It's only a few extra quid so I wouldn't be worried about the extra cost but do I gain anything by going for that one over the normal one?

Thanks for any help :)

Probably not much help to you but I have seen in many many forums that the 100-400 is one of the only lenses that does not like a filter on it and will degrade image quality so maybe if you have to use one buy the best you can afford. I had this lens and didn't use a filter on it based on this info So i cannot confirm this

Yes - Hoya HD. It's a better filter in several ways. Better water-resistant coating and as you say, higher transmission - 1.2 stops compared to 1.7-1.9 for most others, including Pro-1. Handy half a stop more light when you often need higher shutter speeds.
