High-end bridge cameras: Sony RX10, Panasonic FZ1000 etc

IMG_1473520488.722465.jpg

This was just a quick shot, but the ISO performance at 2000 ISO is very impressive. I use a Panasonic FZ1000.

Some 'cheap and cheerful' hand-held from last night. Sony RX10 iii ISO 6400. Probably too much NR in No.2

Nice series of night shots Glenn! I think number 2 is my favourite!
Laptop woes (my husbands) has led to a bit of a change round, the upshot being that I have a new laptop! I am in the process of transferring everything over and backing up etc etc but I should be back soon with some half way decent photos I hope! Having said that the heat doesn't agree with my Lupus so not much photography being done at the moment, but I do have a backlog to go through and process If necessary. I'll certainly have a lot of catching up to do once autumn/winter is upon us!

Thanks Marcia, I was actually checking out my new car in the dark for the first time and thought I'd grab my camera. I put no real effort into taking these, just snaps. We haven't had the benefit of any hot weather here, as you can see from the cloud. Looking forward to seeing some more RX10 pics, it's a bit quiet in here but, like I said, the weather has been rubbish here.

Really like the last one Glenn. Really well composed!
As an aside, I see the Nikon DL series release has been postponed again! I am so glad I didn't wait!

Has it? Till when now? I'm thinking of selling all mft gear, Id prefer an all in one solution, may have to consider the iii if nothing else available
Though I'd probably go for the fz or G3X

Same as before thought it was something new, :'( hoping someone else will bring something new to the table

Just seen a news update for the potential upgrade to the fZ1000. It may just be me, but it doesn't seem like a fantastic upgrade at all, I understand the Focal length has now increased a little but not majorly.. rather disappointing!

I presume to 600mm? With the sensor size your going to get the tiny sensors superzoom ranges, it's probably not possible to go further but I would imagine they're be several other improvements to

Thought it was 475mm? Not a great improvement really..

480mm still seems a strange choice why not 500mm? Considering it's been so long for the replacement there doesn't seem too much to get excited about, I guess the price will be considerably lower than the RX10 III, and will have to wait for some reviews to see if it's any better than the original which will become dirt cheap.

480mm is 20x 24mm which is the minimum (equivalent) focal length.

FZ1000 minor PP as it was already nice and sharp

I agree, it isn’t much of an increase really - and is a peculiar number. I think the price was similar to the original sony when that came out though? I suppose they all drop like stones though!

I guess we'll have to wait till its out and then see what it performs like though I'd expect it to very good

Whether they'll be enough to tempt me is another thing [emoji16]

Swan is a stunner! Love the sharpness of the robin, very impressive. Sony?

£1099 they want for the FZ2000, I'd rather pay the extra for the RX10 III :-D :-?

That Swan is absolutely glorious, Glenn!! The light through the wings is sublime! And of course, how can I resist the Robin! Thank you for sharing.

Just so this thread doesn't slip into oblivion, here's a Robin, Sony RX10 iii at 220mm

It's a marketing thing as it's now got a 20x zoom rather than the 16x of the FZ1000. But starting from 24mm rather than 25mm does make the numbers more awkward.
Yes see what you mean[emoji4]

One from Friday of a Southern Hawker in flight. Not the best shot in the world but given it wasn't taken with a high end DSLR and lens, and with very little PP I am chuffed to bits!!

.... I am chuffed to bits!!
And justifiably so!
I'll be posting some pics again next week but my attention is on the Lego show at STEAM at the moment. Panic is somewhere in the vicinity.....

The new Panasonic fz2500 is a camera that appears to be aimed at videographers rather than stills guys.
With is internal 4:2:2 10bit capture and its built in ND filters, alloy build quality, and tilting, swivelling touch screen it should knock the rx10iii into a cocked hat. Video guys will have little interest in the extra focal length of the Sony.
The fz2500 is aimed at pro's who will colour grade their footage, where as the rx10iii is aimed at amatures and enthusiasts.
(That's not to say that the Sony isn't very good, it is, it's just in a different market)

I've been told that the introduction of the rx10iii has forced Panasonic to hurry the fz2500 to market ASAP, and the fact that they announced it 3 months before it is available may indicate that they were worried about Sony grabbing market share. They've also priced it well below the Sony, which may force the price of the rx10iii down, (once stocks become common place)
Panasonic have also announced the forthcoming gh5, due mid 2017 which will be a big hit with video pro's.

One things for sure, it's great news for the consumer.
