High CPU usage in Elements 9

I have always thought that my Elements 9 was a bit slow, but it has started to freeze on me when in the editing mode. I normally open two screens - organise and edit. However, just recently the editing has been slowing down, and then failing to respond, and this also corresponds with a little message warning me of high CPU usage. When I go to Task Manager (Elements not responding), the usage is up to 95%.
Has anyone else had these problems? I am running Windows 7, have plenty of space left - 390GB, so could this be down to the amount of RAM or the processor?

Cheers,

Andy

I'd be tempted to post this in the everything else sub forum under the computers and websites bit.

How much memory do you have and what does the Task Manager (right click on the task bar, start Task Manager, then goto Performance tab and tell us what the values in the Physical Memory (MB) box are) say is in use?

Sorry for the delay getting back on this topic. I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7, and have 3GB of RAM - is that enough?
I may have found a little glitch, not sure.
When I am using the spot healer or clone option, Elements asks me to convert the image to 32 bit. If I Alt/left click at the wrong moment to select the cloned area, then the programme freezes. I have to click on the area first, then say yes to convert to 32 bit, then Alt/left click to select the clone area.

OK, not memory then! Is there a "System Info" in the Help menu item of PSE7. If so, can you post that?

@Andy, yes 3G should be OK.

Hmm... Looks to have a reasonable amount of memory available. Does the CPU stay like that constantly (I assume the CPU meter in the posted pic is Elements using the CPU).

Sorry for the delay getting back on this topic. I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 7, and have 3GB of RAM - is that enough?

I'm the same except for 4GB RAM. I keep getting the same message on PSE. Also happens when using HDR or stacking software. PIA, but I put it down to high resource usuage of photo processing software. I just live with it, but if anyone can find a way round it.....

it seems to stay about the same, and that pic posted is using elements with just the internet open and the program i took the snap with.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas without the PC in front of me :(

I had a similar issue with Lightroom using to much CPU and finally crashing the system. In the end I contacted adobe who said the user settings had been corrupted and that was what was draining the CPU. I can't remember how now but they deleted the user settings so when Lightroom was restarted in went through all the first time start up screens again and rewrote new user settings. Not had an issue since then :)

As an idea, have you tried uninstalling it, then manually deleting all residual adobe files for settings etc and then reinstalling it ??

If you do then be careful you don't delete something that's necessary to other adobe products by mistake !

i too am using pse9 with win 7 x 64 bit, cant say what ram or memory i'm using it's all a mystery to me.

back to the chase.....i have no problems with pse9 and win 7 x 64 bit.

I had a problem on win7 where pse9 would freeze up when using several different tools and someone told me to right click the pse icon and Run as Administrator, i do this every time now and the problem has disapeared.
