Hi, I'm Sarah and I'm new here I have been gradually getting into taking photos and playing with them for the last couple of years and have just bought a Nikon D3100 after borrowing a Nikon D50 earlier in the year - really got the bug now! I am slowly working my way through a guidebook for the camera and at the moment I am trying to figure out balancing out the aperture, shutter speed and ISO and not quite managed how yet! Does anyone know on this model how I control the shutter speed manually? Also, I'm struggling to understand aperture a little too! If anyone can give me good tips for a beginner I'd be very grateful

Set the camera to Manual (M) on the rotary control on top should put aperture and shutter speed on manual.

Hi And Welcome, like your New Forest shots, living down there I somehow don't get to get out as much as I wish I could. best thing to do to start understanding the connection of iso aperture and shutter speed is to get a good photography book, basic photography by Michael langford was the one we used for city and guilds 20+ years ago and gives a great grounding in the basics.
