Hi, I'm Sarah and I'm new here :) I have been gradually getting into taking photos and playing with them for the last couple of years and have just bought a Nikon D3100 after borrowing a Nikon D50 earlier in the year - really got the bug now! I am slowly working my way through a guidebook for the camera and at the moment I am trying to figure out balancing out the aperture, shutter speed and ISO and not quite managed how yet! Does anyone know on this model how I control the shutter speed manually? Also, I'm struggling to understand aperture a little too! If anyone can give me good tips for a beginner I'd be very grateful :)

Hi And Welcome, like your New Forest shots, living down there I somehow don't get to get out as much as I wish I could. best thing to do to start understanding the connection of iso aperture and shutter speed is to get a good photography book, basic photography by Michael langford was the one we used for city and guilds 20+ years ago and gives a great grounding in the basics.

Hi Sarah and welcome. The manual is your friend! S for shutter speed on the top dial.
